East Liverpool, Ohio - Birmingham/Pittsburgh, PA. - Baltimore, Maryland

  • 1839 James Bennett a native of England, started the first of the various Bennett potteries in East Liverpool, Ohio on the S.E. Corner of 2nd & Jefferson Sts.
  • 1841 his sons, Daniel, Edwin and William joined him and the pottery was called Bennett & Sons
  • 1844 The pottery was sold to Thomas Croxall & Brothers (in 1852 the plant was destroyed by flood and closed)
    Edwin, Daniel and James moved to Birmingham, PA. to start a small pottery, leaving William to operate a small pottery Ohio
  • 1846 Edwin moved to Baltimore, Maryland, founding the E Bennett Chinaware Factory
  • 1848 William closed his Ohio pottery and joined Edwin in Maryland. The name changing to E & W Bennett
  • 1849 James had retired and Daniel closed the PA factory, after carrying on alone for a few years
  • 1856 the Maryland factory became the Edwin Bennett Pottery
  • 1890 the name was again changed to the Edwin Bennett Pottery Company
  • The Depression took its toll and they were forced to file for bankruptcy
  • 1936 Closed
