Hi, as you all know my name is Dimitri and I play lots of instruments: violin, guitar, piano, bass, trumpet. You think I suck since I play so many but I don't. I play violin and trumpet in orchestra, and jam on guitar and bass with some bands. I record my own songs on my computer using a program called CAKEWALK. This program allows me to record as many tracks as I want one by one and then finally mix them all together and make it sound like a whole band playing together which is what I do. I prefer real instruments and can't stand synthesisers (or midi instruments that sound fake, for example violin played on a keyboard).
In "1 after I", I play all of the following parts: violin 1, violin 2, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, piano, bass guitar. I use a Casio keyboard to play the piano and a digital drumset that came with the program. So everything you hear is not fake, it's real instruments played by me (except drums, but I plan to buy a drumset in the near future (hehe)). I wrote my first song at the age of 7 on the piano. It was a while before I wrote a second song, the Tango when I was a senior in high school. It was performed twice: once in my high school and once in my music school. Then I wrote another song during my sophomore year in college for solo unaccompanied electric guitar which I later performed at a concert. Then after getting CAKEWALK for X-mas I recorded a song where I improv'd (improvised) and didn't use any sheet music, and recorded my best song called "1 after I" in January 2002. Don't ask what it means, I won't tell you. In general, all of my songs have a theme or are written about something or somebody: for example the song "Hucking Fore" was inspired by two girls I knew and how they became whores. It is not the nicest song to listen to, but it was the first one where I tried to sing. It is very different from the almost-classical, Russian-nostalgic-sounding songs I've written so far. My latest song is called "Who Cares", in which I'm very proud of the guitar solo that I played--it fully expresses the mood I'm in right now.
If you want to know what equipment I used or have criticizm or suggestions just drop me a line or call my phone (917) 855-8360. I will update this website as I have time to record more elevators songs for you guys!
