B-Jays Game Report

Standings

B-Jays Ralley! Come from behind to win 18-8. ------------------------------------------------------ Sunday's game picked up right where Thursday's left off, with an offensive explosion. Scoring six runs in the first inning, MFA took an early lead. - In a bold move, player/manager Jimmy Thomson walked off the field after Barry Smoot recorded the first out of the second inning. When questioned by the homeplate umpire, Thomson explained how the "automatic-out" rule applied. The homeplate umpire agreed, although an inning too late. MFA already batted around in the first, and they were given credit for a three-run homerun. After brief discussion, the umpire changed the score, rescinding the runs he previously allowed. This discussion, accompanied by Smoot's spectacular play which preceded it, changed the momentum of the game. - The bottom of the second inning, the B-Jays bats awoke from hybernation for the first time all season. An inning later, the B-Jays scored seven runs, including the speedy Aaron Kitenplon, who pinch-ran for Jeff Morrison. - The MFA's watched as their final scoring chance ended with a play at the plate. First year catcher, Dwight Watson received the relay throw from Smoot and blocked the plate, denying the run. - The offense continued into the fourth, with a nine-run inning, including a Jake Swain homerun, which matched teammate Brandon Mason's shot in the previous inning. - The fifth inning proved to be the final one as Thomson stepped to the plate with two on-base and two outs on the scoreboard. With a 2-2 count Thomson lined a ball to right field, which plated Frank Pike and Chad Thompson. The mercy rule was applied, with the final score 18-8, B-Jays. - Total Time: 37 min. Attendance: 8 Location: The Ground Dome (aka Elon Intramural Fields)
