The Nineteenth Amendment

The Nineteenth Amendment, which legalized womens' suffrage, or right to vote, was proposed on June 4, 1919 and later ratified on August 26, 1920.

The women’s rights movement was started in 1830 and lasted as a controversial issue for more than forty years. During this time, the women’s rights movement conducted campaigns and demonstrations for the passage and later ratification of this amendment.
