"That's OK," he said, understanding that Joey wanted to spend as much time with Samara as possible. "We can push the album back a little longer..I'm sure your fans will understand."
JC cleared his throat before standing up. "I have an announcement to make," he said relieving some of the tension that had been in the room. "Last night...I proposed to Melissa...we're getting married."
Everyone jumped up from around the table and extending their hands to JC in a way of congratulating him. "This is great, man!" Justin said before turning to Chris. "I want my money now."
JC looked at the two of them in confusion before laughing when he realized what Justin was referring to. "You guys didn't do that stupid bet like you did for Joey, did you?"
Chris mumbled something none of them could understand as he pulled out his wallet. "Yes, we did..and I lost the bet of when Joey would propose to Samara..I can't win anything."
As much as Joey wanted to be happy for JC, he was still held back in his emotions. He remembered the day that he had asked Samara to marry him just like it was yesterday....
*Four years earlier*
Joey felt his palms beginning to sweat as he and his girlfriend walked down the beach, their bare feet splashing around in the water. There were scattered clouds in the sky, blocking half of the stars that were out that night, but the few that were visible made the night beautiful. His left hand reached into his pocket and patted the engagement ring that he had bought earlier that week.
The moment was perfect and all he had to do was open his mouth to get the question out, but even that small task seemed impossible. Out of the corner of his eye, he studied her appearance and his mind beamed with pride when he realized that the beautiful woman was his. It wasn't only her outer beauty that had captured him, it was the inner beauty that she possessed.
"Samara," he began before stopping when he felt his whole mouth go dry. He swallowed before blinking his eyes as the two of them came to a stop.
"Yes, Joe?" she asked, her eyes sparkling as she looked up at him with an innocent smile plastered on her face. As the breeze blew her hair towards her face, he reached out to push it behind her ear, letting his fingers brush against her skin.
"You're beautiful, Samara," he said as he studied her complexion. He loved the long brown hair that she had and the green eyes, two colors that were rarely seen together. "That's not what I wanted to say."
"You know you can tell me anything," she said as she took his hand in hers, smiling when she felt the tingles run through her fingers.
"Samara..we've known each other for six years and we have a beautiful daughter together," he said as he felt the knots in his stomach beginning to return. "I love you very much, Sam..you bring out a side of me that makes me feel...complete. I love being with you and Katherine because I know we're meant to be a family," he said as he pulled the ring out of his pocket and slipped it on her finger. "What I'm trying to say is...Samara..will you marry me?"
Her eyes began to water as she nodded her head and threw her arms around his neck. "Yes!"
He kissed her cheek quickly before swinging her around in the air. "You don't know how happy you've just made me, Sam."
*end of flashback*
"Joey...are you OK?" Lance asked, bringing Joey back to reality. He blinked his eyes a few times before slowly nodding his head as he looked around to see the concerned faces of his friends.
"I just had something on my mind," he said softly as he stood up and reached for his light weight jacket. "Are we through for today?"
Johnny glanced down at his clip board before nodding his head. "I'll be in touch with you soon, Joe."
Joey told all the guys good-bye before heading towards the parking lot, eager to get home to Samara and Katherine. As he was driving down the main highway, heading towards his house, a flower shop caught his attention. He knew how much Samara loved flowers and he knew they'd cheer her up. He pulled into the parking lot and parked his car before slipping on his sunglasses and hat, something that all of the guys were used to doing.
When he walked in, he was met by the mixed scent of all the different flowers. He knew exactly what he wanted as he walked up to the cashier, clearing his throat to get the man's attention. The man turned around before smiling. "What can I do for you today?"
"I need a dozen of your best roses," Joey told him before pulling out his credit card and pushing it across the glass to the man. "And I also need three yellow carnations."
The man picked up the credit card, glancing down at the name. "Give me just a few minutes, Mr. Fatone and I'll have them ready for you."
Joey drummed his fingers on the glass as he waited for the man to fill his request. It wasn't long before a large vase containing twelve beautiful red roses and a smaller vase containing the three yellow carnations were placed in front of him. Joey took back his credit card before picking up the flowers and walking out of the store.
After another twenty minutes, he finally arrived home, eager to get inside and show his two favorite girls the surprise he had. As he walked into the large spacious living room, he smiled when he saw that Samara had finally came downstairs. "Look what I have for my two wonderful ladies."
The two of them turned around a split second before Katherine jumped off the couch and ran over to him, her eyes shinning as she looked at the flowers. "Are the big ones mine?"
He chuckled before shaking his head and pointing to the small vase he had just sat down on the table. "No, Kat..the smaller ones are from you and the large ones are for your mother."
"Joey..they're beautiful," Samara whispered as she bent down to smell one of the roses. "Thank you."
"No problem," he said as he leaned over and kissed her softly on the lips. "Its good to see you up and about."
"Joe..I have something to tell you," she said as her tone changed from happy to flat and unemotional. "Why don't we head upstairs while you, young lady," she said turning to point at Katherine. "Go watch TV and be a good girl for a few minutes."
"OK," the little girl said, still happy that she had gotten flowers. She skipped over to the couch and plopped down on it, never turning to look back at her parents.
"Come on," Samara said, giving Joey a little tug so he would start walking towards the stairs. Once the two of them were in their bedroom with the door closed, she led him over to the bed and motioned for him to sit down. "I have to tell you something, Joe."
"You're scaring me here, Sam," Joey said as he looked into her eyes, searching for a clue as to what she had to tell him.
"I..I found out something today."
