Chapter Nine *One Month Later*

"Damn it, Joe, I'm very capable of doing this by myself!" an annoyed Samara told her husband. "I know how to cook and I know how my daughter likes her food fixed."

"I'm just trying to help you!" Joey said in his defense, immediately dropping the spoon that he was holding. "I'll go in the living room and watch TV if it bothers you so much that I'm trying to help out. I didn't know it was a crime to want to help my wife out with chores around the house."

"Don't start with me, Joey!" she yelled, throwing the knife she was holding down onto the counter, causing him to jump in surprise. "Ever since we got back over here, you act as if I'm not capable of doing a damned thing by myself!"

"I'm just trying to help you," he said walking towards her, but stopping when he saw the angry look that was plastered on her face. He sighed in defeat before turning on his heels and leaving the kitchen.

As Samara watched him walk out, she knew she was over reacting but she felt as if he were smothering her. She understood the fact that he was wanting to help her out, but she couldn't take him being at her side every minute of the day. She knew she should call out to him and clear up this whole matter, but she wasn't in the mood to discuss her feelings with him. She shook her head before returning to chopping the vegetables she had previously been doing before he had came into the kitchen and tried to do everything himself.

For a month, her whole life had been centered on waiting. Everyone she knew and even people she didn't were waiting on some type of announcement to let them know if the surgery had been a success. If it had, that meant that not only would her life be spared and that she could see her daughter grow, but other people would be given the chance to fight for their lives.

"Joey..Katherine!" she yelled as she sat a bowl on the table and wiped her hands on her faded jeans. "Dinner is ready."

Katherine came sprinting into the kitchen, sliding slightly because her pants were a tad too long. "Yay!"

Samara laughed before pulling the chair back and watching with a smile on her face as Katherine climbed into the chair and patiently sat there as she waited on everyone else to have a seat. Samara couldn't bring herself to look at Joey as he sat down in one of the chairs that was next to Katherine's. The three of them ate their meal in silence. Joey was afraid to speak, knowing that he could easily trigger Samara into another round of arguing, and Samara was ashamed to say anything due to her attitude. Katherine was too absorbed in her food to really notice that no conversation was taking place at the table.

As Samara cleared the dishes from the table, she could feel Joey's eyes watching her every move, something she had noticed that he had been doing a lot of lately. It was to the point of making her feel uneasy, when used to, it wouldn't bother her that he was watching her. "Why do you keep staring at me, Joe?"

"How do you know I'm staring at you, Sam?"

"I can feel your eyes on me.." she said as she turned around, her arms full of the plates that had previously been on the table.

"Am I not allowed to look at you anymore, Sam?" he asked in the tone that had a way of getting under her skin and making her want to scream in frustration at how calm and smooth he sounded.

"Damn it Joe!" she cried as she dropped the plates in the sink and turned to look at him, her eyes burning wholes into his. "Its making me feel a little uneasy, knowing that you're constantly watching me..like I'm going to break at any moment."

"I was just watching you and thinking about how beautiful you are," he told her softly, taking a step toward her body that was shaking with anger. He wrapped his arm firmly around her waist, and pulled her body close to his, feeling the longing for her that he always had. "You're so beautiful, baby."

Her anger slowly melted away as she felt his hands trailing up and down her back, pulling her as physically close to his body as he could get, only succeeding in making her body burn with want for him. "We can't do this right now, Joe.."

"Shhh," he said as his lips lowered to close over hers as his tongue merged with hers and created a rhythm that sent them over the edge of wanting each other. When he pulled back, his eyes were blazed over with the need to be joined with her body. "Lets send Katherine to Chris's."

"We can't just send out child out cause we wanna be alone," she said before letting a low groan out when his tongue licked the base of her neck, causing her to shudder in pleasure. "On second thought..we can."

"I thought I might be able to change your mind," he joked as he backed her up against the wall and let his body keep her pinned there. "I want you now baby."

It had been so long since the two of them had experienced such a maddening want for each other and Samara let it take over her thought process, making her completely forget about the five year old girl that was in the next room. She reached down and pulled his shirt over his head, throwing it on the floor and allowing her hands to run up and down his back, while he bent down and kissed her with an urgent hunger.

His hands had fisted in her small tee shirt and was about to remove it when the doorbell rang, bringing the two of them back to reality. Samara took a deep breath and tried to regain her normal breathing pattern, while Joey reached for his shirt and pulled it back on so he could go open the door. He gave a look over his shoulder before pulling the door open to reveal Melissa and JC standing there, smirking when they saw Joey's flushed face and heavy breathing.

"Did we come at a bad time?" JC asked, raising his eyebrows up as he looked passed Joey, to see Samara in the same disheveled state.

"Smartass," Joey mumbled before pulling the door open wider and allowing the two of them to step into the house.

"We came to see if Katherine wanted to stay with us tonight and watch a few movies with Mary," Melissa said, referring to JC's niece.

"I think that's a wonderful idea," Samara said suddenly as she walked out of the room, leaving Melissa smiling up at JC as if she were almost saying "I told you so".

It didn't take very long for Samara to pack Katherine a few things and send her on her way, leaving the two adults alone together for the first time in a while. Joey slid his arm around her waist as they watched JC's car disappear from sight, as he silently vowed to treat her to a night of romance that she would never forget.
