"JC..." Lance's deep voice greeted him, causing JC to sigh in frustration. Part of him had secretly been hoping that it was the police station calling to let them know that Emily had been found.
"What can I do for you, Lance...since its three in the morning and all..." JC said in a slightly annoyed voice as he rubbed his tired eyes.
"You'll be thanking me when I tell you what Stephanie has remembered," Lance began, pausing to make sure JC wasn't going to say anything. After the line remained silent, he continued. "She remembered the name of the cabin that Riley's parents used to own...she called the police and they are in the process of trying to find out where exactly the cabin could be located. Its not much, but its definitely something to go by."
JC's eyes grew wide as his pulse began to quicken. "Do they think that they can find her?"
"I don't know," Lance said, a note of sadness threatening to take over in his voice. "But its something...its something that we didn't have before."
JC sat up in the bed and ran his fingers through his already messed up hair and sighed. "The police didn't happen to say when they'd be in contact with us, did they?"
Lance didn't say anything for a moment, causing JC's heart to begin to fall. "All they said was that it could take up to a week for them to go through all the cabins that are possibly called 'Ironsides'...so you can pretty much assume that it will take a few days."
"Damn it," he said before swinging his legs around to the side of the bed and planting his feet on the floor. "I'm going to go let Whitney and Justin know...I'll talk to you later Lance...thank you for calling us."
"Hey..no problem...talk to you later."
JC quickly walked down the hall and knocked on Justin's bedroom door, almost already knowing that he wouldn't be answered. "Hey Justin?"
He stood there for a moment contemplating rather he should wake him or not and finally decided to go ahead and alert him with what was happening. He pushed the door open and smiled when he saw Whitney snuggled close to his friend with her hand resting on his head. He walked to the bed and gently shook Whitney's shoulder, hoping that she would wake up.
"Mmmm," she mumbled before snuggling closer to the pillow and moving her hand away from Justin's head. JC watched her and sighed. It was never an easy task when it came to waking someone up.
"Both of you, wake up!" He said in a louder voice and grinned when Justin's body jumped in bed and he sat straight up.
"What?" Justin said as he frantically looked around the room, expecting to see it on fire. He looked down at Whitney, who was in the process of rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, and then he settled in on JC, who was standing there smirking at the two of them. "Is this a joke,JC?"
JC laughed lightly before shaking his head. "Lance called...."
"Couldn't this have waited til morning, then? Nothing Lance has to say is that important..."
"Well...." JC began as he looked at Whitney, who was starring at him curiously. "Stephanie remember the name of Riley's family cabin...and she told it to the police..."
"Did they find her?" Whitney burst out, as she jumped off the bed and put her hands on JC's shoulders, her eyes ragging with excitement. "Is she alright?"
JC shook his head and looked over at Justin for help. "They haven't found her yet....but they're working on it. Atleast its some hope..."
Whitney shrank back to the bed and sat down with a sigh. "JC...thank you for coming and telling us this...I appreciate it, but I do believe it would be best if we all got some sleep...I have a feeling we're going to be in for a wild ride from here on out."
"What's going on?" a female's voice called out as a shadow entered the room. All three of them looked up to see Natalie leaning against the door frame, looking extremely irritated from being awoken from sleep. "Is something the matter?"
"Go back to bed, Natalie," Justin said as he let out a sigh and laid back down on the bed, rolling his head around on the pillow until he got comfortable.
"Its kind of hard to sleep when voices are loud!" she said as she gave an annoyed look that was directed towards Whitney. "Some people obviously don't have any manners!"
"Is she going to start crying?" Whitney commented under her breath, causing JC to laugh and Justin to moan. "Natalie...what we were talking about is a little bit more important than you're sleep..if you're that concerned with getting to sleep, you obviously wouldn't have taken the time to get out of bed and walk across the hall to come and cure your curiosity of what we were talking about. My advice to you is to turn around and walk that direct path back to that bed that you're sleeping in and stop whining."
"Excuse me?"
"You heard what I said...I'm in no mood to put up with your snobby attitude...either can it and leave or pay the price of pissing me off...I don't advice you taking that second option."
Justin sat up in bed and laughed as he watched Natalie walk out of the room with her mouth opened wide. "You just pissed her off."
Whitney looked over her shoulder at him then back at JC, before laughing. "Do you honestly think that I'm scared of her?"
JC started walking towards the door as the smile on his face started to disappear. His eyes were burning from the exhaustion that was starting to course through his body and he knew that he had to get some sleep or he wasn't going to make it much farther. "I'm going to bed...good night you two."
Justin watched as JC walked out the door before laying down and looking expectantly up at Whitney to do the same. She shook her head and got up, making her way to the window that was in the corner of his room. She pushed the white lace curtains back and looked up at the moon, hoping that a new conflict wasn't going to come along to add to the already massive one that everyone was dealing with. She closed her eyes for a moment before deciding there was nothing more that she could do, which caused her to retreat to the alternative. She laid down in the bed beside Justin and closed her tired eyes for the last time that night, hoping that she would not be awaken until the morning.
"You should get some sleep, Em," he said as he put the magazine down and stood up, stretching his arms above his head. "There's a blanket right over there since I know you won't sleep in the same bed as me."
"You've got that right," she mumbled under her breath as she tried to decide what she should do. Her tired body was screaming out that she be sensible and get some sleep so that she could conserve her energy, but there was also her fear contradicting her. She watched as he grabbed the blanket off the floor and unfolded it so he could put it on her. She never flinched as he tucked it around her and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "Please don't touch me."
He sighed before throwing his hands up in the air. "I swear, Emily...I don't understand you."
"You don't understand me? I don't understand you! There is something inside you that has to be eating you alive...no person in their right mind would kidnap another that they love and rush them off to some old cabin in the middle of no where, shutting them off from the people that they care about!" she said as her eyes flared in anger.
"I'm not having this discussion," he said simply as he walked into another room, in which she assumed was a bedroom.
She laid her head against a pillow on the squeaky couch upon which she was sitting and sighed. If only there was some way to contact someone, she knew she'd be all right. She would not be able to tell them where she was, but she could atleast calm herself with hearing a familiar caring voice. But there was no reason to wish about something that most likely wouldn't happen. She stretched her legs out, never once letting her eyes open as she tried to get comfortable in the tiny space that she had. She had just gotten to the point of total relaxation when she remembered a small gift that JC had given her when she had first came to Orlando.
"Where's my purse?" she asked out loud as she jumped off the bed and looked around the room. She hadn't carried it in with her and she wasn't for certain that she had grabbed it before they had left the restaurant, but something inside her told her not to give up on finding her purse. She knew that she had to check the car, but there would be no way that Riley would allow her to go outside by herself, but she had to try. She took a deep breath and walked into the room where she saw him stretched out on the bed with his arm curled beneath his head. "Riley?"
"What Em?"
"I need to see if my purse is in your car...there's a toothbrush in it and I can't go to sleep without brushing my teeth," she lied as she nervously twirled a strand of hair around her finger.
He sighed and got up off the bed, walking briskly past her and out the door. She stood in the room, not sure if she should follow him or wait for him to return. She moved her shoe across the nasty floor as she watched for his return. When he finally did walk back in the door, she felt her heart drop as she saw an empty hand enter first. "Did I not grab it?"
He looked at her funny for a moment and then threw a blue cotton purse at her and sighed. "There...damn girls," he mumbled before walking back to the bed and falling into the same position that he was in before she disturbed him.
Emily's heart began to beat wildly as she walked out of the room and into a small bathroom that was located on the opposite end of where Riley lay. With trembling hands, she reached into the purse and pulled out a brand new cell phone that had been presented to her not too long ago. She became overjoyed and didn't know whom she should call. She could call the police, but she had no clue where she was and could not direct them to her, and there would be no possible way for them to trace her call because it was coming from a cell phone. She sighed and looked into the dusty mirror. She knew who she wanted to call, but she hesitated with it being so late. She knew that he should be asleep, but her selfishness inside made her find his number in her phone and call.
She locked the small door and leaned against it, hoping that Riley had remained in bed and wasn't on the other side of the door. Emily felt her heart fall when JC's answering machine clicked on, instead of his own voice. "This is JC...I'm not here right now, leave a message and I'll get back to you whenever I get a spare moment...Peace."
Emily sighed and began speaking softly. "JC...its Emily...I really wish I could hear your voice right now, but there's nothing I can do about that. I can't tell you where I'm at because I have no clue where this nasty cabin is located....but let everyone know that I'm all right...I'll keep this phone turned off and check it every night...give everyone my love and I hope to see you all soon," she said as a tear fell down her cheek before she clicked the phone off and laid it on the counter. Damn this whole situation she was in. She wanted to go home.
She felt tears burning the corner of her eyes as she looked around the small bathroom for a place to hide the phone. If Riley found it, then there would definitely be hell to pay and she did not want to deal with his ranting anymore than she had to. After finding a small area where the phone could be hidden, she walked back into the main room of the cabin and stretched out on the couch. As her tired and confused eyes began to close, she softly mumbled JC's name, slightly smiling at the warm sensation that it created in her body. She knew that he would turn out to be her knight in shinning armor and she could not wait to be in his arms once again.
