Chapter 4
AJ and Lydia walked downstairs to the kitchen where Lydia's father was at.
"Hey guys! OK, now it's time to meet and greet. Everyone, this is my daughter Lydia, and her friend AJ. This is my lovely wife Trisha, her daughter Katie, or Kat as we call her," Lydia's dad pointing to a teenager about 17 or 18. She was looking at AJ with a look in her eyes. But of course thats probably the only time she's ever seen an actor up close and personal. Then her father pointed to a pretty good looking guy. He looked about 20. "And her son Matt."
Matt stepped ahead, and shook hands with AJ. Then he moved over to Lydia and smiled at her, "Lydia, it's great to finally meet you. Your father has told us so much about you."
"Thanks, it's nice to meet you too," Lydia said.
"Lydia honey, I know you may still be mad at me for putting you in an orphanage, and I understand that. I would take it back if I could. I wish I had never listened to your mother. Anyway remember the daughter your mother had?" asked her father putting an arm around her.
"No, I didn't really get to ever see her," said Lydia.
"Well, now you will. Meet your sister Liza," said Tim as he pushed a little girl in front of him. Then he bent down to her level. "Liza, honey, this is your sister Lydia. Why don't you say hi?"
"OK daddy," said Liza walking up to her sister. She looked up at her.
"Hi Liza. How are you?" asked Lydia looking down at the little girl.
"Fine," Liza said in a small voice.
"Well know that we know each other, let's get something to eat why don't we? You guys must be hungry!" said Trisha. "What do you like on your pizza?"
"Peperoni and whatever else is fine," said Lydia.
"Same as Lydia," said AJ.
"Well why don't you four kids get to know each other while the pizza is getting ordered," said Tim.
The four older kids went down stairs to the game room.
"So, uh.... you like it so far in Michigan Lydia?" asked Matt.
"Pretty much. I kinda forgot how cold it gets here though. Man it's cold!" said Lydia.
"You never said it was cold! I remember your exact words!" said AJ.
"How did I know you were going to say that?" asked Lydia.
"So um, are you two going out?" asked Kat.
"Us? Us, you mean you think we're going out? Ha, ha! That's funny!" said Lydia.
"Yeah, that is. Why would you think that we're going out?" asked AJ.
"I dunno, just wondering I guess. Let's turn on the TV. I think Who's Line Is It Anyway is on," said Kat as her brother turned on the TV.
"Um, I'm gonna go upstairs for a bit. Just a second," said Lydia as she started to go up the stairs. She looked back at AJ and saw him looking at her. She made a motion wth her head for him to follow her. then she walked up the stairs more.
"Yes?" asked AJ as they got up the basement stairs.
"Nothin, I just didn't want to leave you down there with them," said Lydia as they started to go up the steps to the room they shared.
"Oh, thanks. Your stepsister was starting to make eyes at me," said AJ as he shivered. "I mean not that your sister is ugly or anything, but yeah, ya know."
"Yeah," said Lydia.
"So you like them?" asked AJ.
"They're OK. I'm just not going to get really close," said Lydia.
"AJ! Lydia! Pizza's here!" yelled Tim from downstairs.
"Coming Dad!" Lydia yelled back down.
"Race ya downstairs," challenged AJ.
"As long as I win!" said Lydia as she ran downstairs.
"That's not fair!" AJ said running after her.
