As I woke up I glanced out my bedroom window. ‘Snow,’ I thought happily. It was perfect, snow for Christmas.
"Ike! Tay! Zac!" my little brother Mackie yelled up the stairs. "Wake up! Presents!"
Happily I swung my legs over the side of my bed. I got up and threw on my jeans and a light sweatshirt.
As I entered the living room I looked around to see my whole family, Mack, Jessie, Avie, Zoë, Ike, Tay, and Mom and Dad.
"Yea!" Mackie yelled, diving into the pile of gifts.
"Mackie, are you going to play Santa this year?" Mom asked.
"Yeah!" he exclaimed. "This is for…J_Jessica," he read off the tag of the nearest gift. "There Jessie!" He handed our sister the gift.
I sat patiently, waiting for Mack to hand out the rest of the gifts. I couldn’t help but thing about how good of a reader Mack was, he was only 5 and could read the names of the presents.
When we were all done opening our presents, Mom went into the kitchen to make breakfast.
"Let’s play in the snow!" Avie suggested excitedly.
It didn’t snow too much in Tulsa, so all of us kids went out to play in the small amount of snow.
"Snowball fight!" I yelled, throwing a snowball at Taylor. It smashed into the back of his sweater. Soon enough, there were balls of snow flying every which way. Even little Zoë tried to join in, but toddlers can’t throw very far and she didn’t have much luck.
Mom called us in for breakfast. We all stomped our shoes on the mat and walked into the dining room. Mom had made eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes.
We all ate hungrily. When we were finished, we thanked Mom for the delicious breakfast.
"Where are we going to Grandpa’s?" Jessica asked.
"About noon," Dad answered. "It’s 10:30 now, so get ready."
"And you can only bring one toy," Mom added.
When noon came around we all piled into the family can and headed over to Grandpa Lawyer’s house. We were the last to arrive, all our aunts, uncles, and cousins were there. We had a big Christmas dinner, then cookies and pie.
When we left, it was 7:00, 7 hours later.
That night as I lay in bed, I thought over the day’s events. That had been the best Christmas in a long time. It had been too long since we spent the holiday’s at home, about 3 years. It may not seem that exciting, but it was mine and I enjoyed it.
