“Oh god Frick! What the hell am I gonna do? I’m blind for god sakes! Oh god! I wish I’d never said I was bored, I wish I was asleep too! It’s Ben’s fault! He should have never stopped the bus, then I wouldn’t be able to drive the stupid bus!” Nick shouted on the hospital bed, knocking over anything within his grasp.

“Calm down, calm down Nick. You’ll get better, trust me. This is only temporary. Just calm down and relax.” Brian held onto Nick’s shoulders as Nick started crying.

*knock knock* Everybody, in the hospital room looked towards the door except Nick who was still crying at the time. The door opened and a shy face peeked through the door.

“Who are you?” Brian blurted out covering up Nick incase it was a fan.

“Oh, she’s the private nurse you hired.” Antonia, the head nurse pushed Amanda inside the bare room that looked like a tornado had just been there.

“Oh.” Brian loosened up and moved to reveal the red-faced Nick. Nick wiped his wet face before turning around to face his visitors.

“Well, visiting hours are almost over so why don’t the rest of you leave and let Mr. Carter have his rest. I’ve already called his parents and they’d be over tomorrow.” Antonia spoke up breaking the uncomfortable silence that settled. “Amanda,” she walked over to her, “You just stay in here and get to know him, get him anything he needs… y’know. Just don’t let him be disturbed, he’s under a lot of stress so don’t expect him to open up to you immediately kay?” She whispered softly into Amanda’s ear. Amanda didn’t respond, she just shook her head, lead ¾ of the BSB and Antonia to the door and shut it gently.

“Hello, my name’s Amanda and I’m your private nurse. You can tell me to get or do anything. Treat me as a friend, talk to me ‘cause I think that I’m gonna be around for a while.” Nick didn’t say anything, he was too occupied in his own world of thoughts.

“How could this happen to me? My careers over after all my hard work.” Nick whimpered quietly and buried himself under the covers.

“No it’s not over,” Amanda interrupted softly, “I believe in you… you can make it, trust me… this isn’t a big deal.”

“That’s easy for you to say! It’s not you that’s blind! What do you know anyway?” Nick shouted in annoyance.

“Yes, I do know what it feels like.” Amanda pulled out a white chair from beside the table, “A year ago, I was an anorexic… I was less than 80 Lbs. and I still felt fat, nothing could satisfy me except being thin. By then, I was already in the same hospital you’re in right now. I refused food. Then my boyfriend dumped me ‘cause he thought that I was going to die and that I looked horrible. I felt useless and committed suicide… as you can tell, I survived in the end. It was stupid and selfish of me just to end my life like that. During that time in the hospital… I felt terrible and I was sure that my whole life was over, I was going to die. But then, I thought about all of my friends, my relatives. I knew I couldn’t let go of them so I took in the treatments I needed. I was determined to live. I had faith. My friends and family came often and encouraged me. If it weren’t for them, I’d be dead by now.”

Nick listened with amazement. This girl had apparently gone through harder times then he had. She felt... trapped. Nick calmed down. “I’m sorry ‘bout the way I was behaving… it was just, just… so sudden.” Nick started to cry softly again. “Am, am… am I ever going to see again?” Nick asked scared to know the answer.

Amanda hesitated and thought hard before giving an answer that would encourage Nick, “I believe that if you are determined, you can achieve anything you want.” Amanda held his hand tightly as if to give him courage.

Although Nick had only known this stranger for a few minutes, she had already given something to Nick that he has never felt before. Something… something that made him feel different about himself. Something that even his best friend, Brian, or his family could give him. He didn’t feel lost and alone anymore. “I’d like to get some rest now…” Nick whispered and thought about Amanda’s advice. He pulled the white and thin hospital sheet over his head.

Amanda gazed at white lump under the so-called blanket. She felt extremely sorry for Nick. He was so young… yet so famous, he may lose everything that he has worked so hard for. Amanda sighed deeply and opened the wooden door of the private room. “Ring the bell if you need anything,” she said.

Nick peeked from under the covers, “Thanks…” he called out softly but loud enough for Amanda to hear.

Amanda turned her head at the shaking voice and smiled. After she saw Nick duck back under the sheets, she left with a gentle bang of the door.
