“So who was it?” Jessica, Amanda’s enemy glared evilly at her. She was young, pretty and she knew it. She always wore her uniform really short and opened the buttons at the top until you can see the tip of her bra.
“Who?” Amanda asked uninterested as she started to walk around the empty halls pushing the breakfast cart.
Jessica hissed, “You know what I’m talking about! That person that hired you privately you bitch!”
“Oh, well, no one special. Just someone really rich that doesn’t want anyone disturbing him.” Amanda lied. “Anyway, I’ve gotta go now, you finish off with these and I’ll do the children ward.” Amanda diverted her direction to the left and left an angry-looking Jessica boring a hole in her back.

Knocking softly on the door to Nick’s room, Amanda waited eagerly for a response. When she thought she heard a soft mumble behind the door, she opened it and pushed in the cart.
“Who is it?” Nick asked facing the direction of the door with a fearful look on hi face.
“Don’t worry, it’s me, Amanda,” Amanda reassured him. She helped him up to a sitting position, then grabbed his breakfast from the cart, and put it on the portable table.
“God, I feel so useless!” Nick sighed.
“It will heal, if you give it time. So, how was last night?” Amanda asked, pulling up a chair and sitting on it.
“When can I do the surgery?” Nick ignored Amanda’s question.
“It depends on how fast you’re healing–”
“Is anyone coming to visit me today?”
“Uh…” Amanda thought for a moment, “Yeah, actually. Kevin, Brian, Howie, and AJ are tonight. And, oh yeah, your family called and told us they arrived and will be staying in a hotel near by. They will come during visiting hours which is 2 till 6. (Author’s Note: I’m not so sure about the visiting hours so I just made it up)
“Would you stop sounding like a computer?”
“Huh? A computer? What makes you think that?” Amanda asked looking oddly at Nick.
“That’s more like it!” Nick grinned.
An uncomfortable silence settled between the two. Amanda just sat there staring at Nick who didn’t know what to do. He could feel Amanda’s gaze on him and he felt rather uncomfortable. He tried making a conversation.
“Uh… so, you like our band?” Nick asked holding onto his own hand.
“Well, I don’t really know you, and I’m not into the teenybopper stuff.”
“Oh,” Nick said with a hint of disappointment in his tone.
“But I’ve heard some of your songs,” Amanda said quickly sensing Nick’s disappointment, “You guys are pretty good.”
“Really?” Nick perked up looking pleased, “How old are you anyway?”
“Well, I’ll be 20 this December. How about you?”
“I’m turning 20 next January. So that means you’re older than me.”
“Duh Nick! I think I know! Anyway eat your breakfast, I have to make sure you eat it all before I leave.”
“I can’t see anything, you’re gonna have to feed me.”
“No way! You’re not the only one that’s blind around here! You’re gonna have to feed yourself!”
“How?” Nick asked.
“There’s a thing called fingers and you usually use it to feel things with.”
“Okay, okay! You don’t have to be so sarcastic!” Nick started to ‘see’ with his fingers. When he finally found the tray, he smiled with approval. Then he reached his hands out to find utensils only to feel something slimy and warm in his palm. Amanda let out a soft giggle. “Don’t laugh! I’m blind you know!” Nick started to give up, “I don’t feel like eating anymore.”
Amanda stopped her giggles and sighed, “Nick, you can’t just give up like that. Just because I laughed at you, it doesn’t mean that you can give up. I’m sorry I laughed but there is a possibility that you’re gonna stay like this forever. If you have faith, then you will have even the tiniest bit of hope of recovering, seeing you like this makes me really disappointed. I thought you were a lot stronger than that Nick.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Sorry yourself.” Amanda got up with her hopes down and left without looking back.
