Nick sighed, “I have to be strong, I have to be strong,” he said repeatedly in his mind. “Forget it Carter,” one part of him said, “End your life and all your worries will be gone.” “What are you talking about Carter? How can you be so selfish? What about you’re your friends? What about your family? What about your mom and Amanda? After all their hopes and faith they put in you you’re just gonna end your life without a single goodbye or a thank you?” “Forget it.” Nick said aloud.
“Forget what?” Amanda asked walking into the room cheerfully. “Guess who’s here to see you?”
“The Brady Bunch?” Nick asked boredly.
“Your family!” Amanda replied, ignoring Nick’s sarcasm. She opened the door to reveal the whole Carter clan. Aaron ran in and hugged Nick, following him was his three sisters who were crying. Mrs. Carter and Mr. Carter were too scared to walk in, scared to know what was left of their son. “Come on in Mr. and Mrs. Carter, trust me, your son is fine. He can at least still tickle your children to death.” Amanda laughed as she watched Nick hug Aaron with a content expression on his face.
“Am I glad to see you guys! You won’t believe how boring it is here!”
“Nick, you can’t ‘see’ anything, remember?” Amanda corrected, “How could you possibly be bored with me Nick? I must be the most interesting person around here!”
“That must be why this place is so boring.” Nick whispered loudly to his siblings.
“I swear that you’ll really get after your family leaves Nick!” Amanda cried out and closed the door behind her laughing.
“Who was she Nick?” Aaron asked looking at the direction where Amanda had gone. (In other words, the door!)
“Oh she was the private nurse that we hired. She’s pretty nice actually.” Nick replied playing with Angel’s hair.
“Son,” Mrs. Carter started sobbing. “Are you okay? Oh my god you’re so thin now! Have you been eating enough? Is your hair falling–”
“Mom! Mom! I’m blind, I don’t have cancer, okay?” Nick pushed Jane aside for she was hugging him tightly. “Is dad here?”
“Right here son,” Bob’s voice was shaking as he struggled to fight his tears back. They shared a warm hug then parted.
“Mom, dad. I’m fine. Really. I believe that I can get well if I believe that i will. You guys can go now.”
“But Nick–” Aaron whined.
“Shh… Nick needs his rest Aaron. We can come sometime else,” Jane reassured him and pushed him out the door.
Nick leaned back and smiled, “Pathetic Aaron.”
