Putting on her sunglasses, Amanda avoided the stares from the opposite sex as she walked past. Figuring, why not? He’s not here anyway. A little fun won’t do any harm. Reassuring herself, she took a deep breathe and gave a carefree smile. She made a small motion and pulled her skirt up a bit higher, showing off her long tanned legs. Noticing a guy walking towards her from the corner off her eye, she immediately walked quicker. Suddenly, her bag felt heavier as she halted to a stop. Her bag wasn’t getting heavier, the guy had his grasp on it. Deciding that she won’t be the first to speak, she turned around and crossed her arms and lifted up her sunglasses so that they sat comfortably on her head.

“May I befriend you?” He asked confidently, smiling widely.

“Uh, depends on what kind of friend you want to be…” Amanda answered flirtatiously. He slipped his hand her waist. Taking that as a sign to back off, she shrugged it off, “I’m taken,” she said simply and continued to make her way to her friend’s house. What was I thinking back there? I’ve already got a great boyfriend that everybody’s dying to have. Then why am I acting like this? She asked herself. Feeling someone’s gaze on her, she turned around and realized that the stranger had followed her. “What do you want?” she asked, demandingly.

“I just want to be friends,” he answered simply.

“Well, what am I supposed to do?” Amanda asked incredulously.

“Say yes and give me you telephone number and address,” he suggested hopefully.

“Maybe I’ll say yes but give you my telephone number and address? Save it. Maybe we’ll meet again in the future if we are really destined to be friends,” Amanda continued to walk to her friend’s house. Seeing that it was only a few meters away, she ran ahead and rang the bell. Still feeling someone following her, she turned around and realized that he was still there behind her. “Would you stop following me?” She exclaimed.

“I’m not following you,” he denied.

“Then why are you here?” She asked. She leaned against the door, the door creaked open. “Hey, it’s open,” she walked in and was greeted by a tight warm hug and a swarm of people shouting ‘surprise!’ she grinned widely as she glanced at the person hugging her. “Nick!” She exclaimed.

“Yep, it’s me!” He smiled and glanced behind her, “Hey Alex!” He greeted the person behind Amanda.

“You guys know each other?” Amanda asked incredulously.

“Yeah, why not?” Nick asked, kissing her cheek.

“Nick, let go, I can’t breath!” Amanda exclaimed. She looked curiously at Alex.

"I'm sorry," he mouthed to her.

“It’s okay,” she mouthed back and smiled. Amanda didn’t know whether it was her imagination or not but she thought that Alex’s smile wasn’t as bright as she first saw him. She thought she saw Alex glance at Nick and her occasionally. Was it jealousy? How could it be when they just knew each other? Amanda pushed her curiosities away and rested her head on Nick’s chest. She sighed happily.

“You should have told me you were here already!” Amanda told Nick as she gazed up into Nick’s eyes.

“I wasn’t though,” Nick smirked.

“Come on, don’t tell me you flew all the way here! I won’t believe it!”

“But it’s true! Ask Mich!” Nick insisted.

“Never mind, as long as you’re here with me, I’m happy,” Amanda smiled and they leaned in to kiss once more.

“I’ll take you home?” Nick offered, as they stepped out onto the porch.

“Duh, you’ll take me home, who else would?” Amanda replied. The party was over and it was near midnight. Feeling exhausted, she and Nick made their way to the car. Just when Nick was about to get his keys, he paused.

“You need a ride Alex?”

“No thanks Nick, I’ll walk,” Alex smiled and disappeared off in the darkness.

“He’s a nice guy don’t you think?” Nick asked, his gaze still on the direction where Alex went.

“Well, it’s not the first day you knew him Nick. No need to think that you’re a great womanizer as well as a ‘manizer’,” Amanda laughed at her own joke.

“Haha, very funny Manda,” Nick replied dryly as they got into the car and drove off into the night.
