(Author’s Note: If you’re wondering about the fact that I said that Nick wouldn’t drive and he was going to pick up Amanda? Well, I meant that him and his driver were going to pick her up.)

Amanda woke up at the sound of someone knocking loudly on the door early in the morning. She grabbed her pillow from beneath her head and squeezed her ears tightly with it to block out the noises the stranger outside the door was making. Waiting for her parents to open the door, she continued to lie still on her bed under the blankets. After a few minutes, Amanda realized that no one was home and grudgingly, pulled herself off the bed and headed downstairs for the door. “Second time this week!” she groaned as she peeked through the windows. It was Alex. All of a sudden, Amanda felt very shy and very aware of her appearance. She ran her hand through her tangled hair and straightened her pajamas. Opening the door, she gave Alex a bright smile and welcomed him in. “Hey, what’s up?” she asked, giving a slight yawn.

“Oh, I’m cool, I see that you’re still not ready for school?” Alex replied, glancing up and down at Amanda.

“Oh geez! I may as well skip it if I keep forgetting! I can’t believe this! What time is it?” Amanda asked frantically as she scolded herself in her head.

“Erm, hehehe… it’s not really that late you know. You’ve still got an hour,” Alex smirked.

“ Alex!” Amanda exclaimed, “Oh gawd, how bad can people get? Never mind that, what do you want?” Amanda asked, sitting herself down across from Alex.

“Nothing,” Alex replied, enjoying the annoyed look on Amanda’s face.

“If that’s all you’re here for, then, excuse me, I’d rather be asleep at this hour, God knows when you’ve been up. Now, thanks for the visit and good bye,” Amanda said as she opened the door to reveal a sleepy looking Nick, just about to ring the doorbell.

“Oh, hi Nick,” Alex greeted, sounding somewhat disappointed.

Nick gave him and Amanda a strange look, “Hi yourself. Why are you here?”

“Oh, I just came by to drop off some stuff Amanda left in my car the other day,” Alex replied easily.

“Amanda?” Nick asked as if to check if this statement was true or not.

“Yeah,” Amanda immediately replied, “What did you think?”

“Nothing, can I come in?”

“Actually Nick, I was just getting ready, so, I’m busy right now.”

“What? He can come in and I can’t?” Nick exclaimed, glancing over to Alex.

“Hey, I came early!” Alex defended himself.

“Nick, don’t be so unreasonable–” Amanda started.

“Me unreasonable? Since when?” Nick challenged.

“What’s gotten into you?” Amanda asked throwing her hands up in exasperation.

Nick breathed in deeply, “Nothing. Can we just forget that this whole thing happened? I was in a bad mood, k?”

“No Nick, we cannot ‘just forget this’. Am I supposed to put up with every little boy tantrum that you throw for no reason at all? What’s with you lately? You’re never on time for dates, you’re getting so sensitive and everything! What’s up with that? I want to know what’s wrong Nick, I’m your girlfriend, not your mom. I barely know you now!” Amanda finally burst out. All the emotions that she has been locking up inside are finally released.

Nick blinked back, looking surprised, “Hey, I’m sorry! Can we talk about this inside at least?” As he said this, he glanced over to Alex.

“Um, guess I better go now, see you,” Alex waved as he descended the porch stairs. They didn’t reply. As he glanced back, he saw Amanda leaned on the wall and Nick closely in front of her, gazing intensely into her eyes. He saw Amanda smile slightly and Nick leaned in for a kiss. He shut his eyes tightly and promised himself quietly that someday, it will be him that was there in Nick’s place.
