Amanda walked slowly on the deserted beach. The sun was setting as she dug her foot into the sand. She paused to look at the beautiful sight ahead of her, the waves crashing in and rolling out. She sat down feeling confused about her feelings with Nick lately. Putting her head on her knees, she sat still not noticing the shadow approaching her. The wind blew harder suddenly and Amanda shivered as she brushed her silky hair back messily. Still not realizing that she was being watched, she sighed heavily, thinking how lucky she was to be with someone like Nick.

“You’ll catch a cold.” Someone said as he placed a coat on Amanda’s shoulders. Amanda turned around. She couldn’t see who the stranger was because of the light. She glanced up to him. The stranger, knowing that Amanda couldn’t see him, identified himself, “It’s Alex.”

Amanda didn’t answer and continued to gaze at the ocean. “What do you want,” she whispered.

Alex hesitated, “Amanda, I just…”

“Ouch!” Amanda cried out suddenly.

“What? What’s the matter?” Alex glanced at her. Amanda covered her eyes.

“I’ve got sand in my eyes.”

“Wait, let me blow it out.” Alex took Amanda’s hands away from her face. He began to blow softly. Gazing at her, he realized that Amanda was gazing at him as well. He paused and decided to make a risk. He began to lean over. Amanda blinked back and realized that Alex was trying to kiss her. She leaned further back but Alex leaned forward a bit more. Finally, Amanda realized that she wanted to accept the kiss. She shut her eyes lightly and accepted his kiss. Amanda felt strange. It was weird kissing Alex instead of Nick, but strangely, it felt right. Almost as if were meant to be. Uncertainly, she began to kiss him back. Alex pushed her down against the sand and began to kiss her hungrily.

“Stop, stop Alex!” Amanda pushed Alex back.

“What’s the matter babe?”

“I… I don’t know! I’m too confused! Get away from me!” Amanda stood up and began to run away from Alex. She could feel her hot tears streaking down her face as she ran. She could hear Alex running after her and telling her to stop running. When she arrived somewhere, she found herself standing right in front of Nick’s house. She backed a bit. Why am I here? she asked herself. She quickly ran off back to her own house. Tripping over a large stone laid in front of the stairs, she picked herself up and cursed, “Who the hell out this there?” she said while kicking the stone. She ran up and opened the door quickly and looked back to see if Alex was still there.

“Wait! Amanda! Listen to me!” he called.

Amanda let herself in as fast as she could and slammed the door behind her just as Alex was about to grab at her. She turned around and noticed that her parents were sitting at the kitchen table, drinking coffee, and looking worriedly at her.

“Amanda, honey, are you okay?” her mother asked, “Have you been crying?”

“No, I’m fine.” Amanda replied while wiping her tears off her face. Outside, Alex was banging heavily on her door.

“Amanda!” he was shouting.

“Who’s outside honey?” her father asked. His eyebrows furrowed as he tried to look through the curtains. He stood up. “Open the door Amanda.”

“No!” Amanda cried out. “Um… he’s a mad man from the mental institution and he’s uh… pretending to be a thief!”

Her parents looked at her strangely. “Are you sure dear?”

“Yeah I am!” Amanda cried out before running upstairs to her bedroom. She slammed her bedroom door loudly and sobbed heavily. What have I done?
