Chelsea Gabriele gripped tightly onto the receiver as she anxiously waited for the line to go through. She shut her eyes and crossed her fingers for good luck. Her best friend, Silvia Andrews, sat in front of her, also waiting eagerly as she grasped onto Chelsea’s sleeve. Suddenly, Chelsea started to smile as she gave a little yell of excitement. “It went through! It went through!” She cried out in ecstasy, “Hello… hello!”

“Hello! You have made it! Who are you?” The DJ said enthusiastically.

“Oh my God! Is this Kiss 92?”

“Yes it is! You have made it! You are the nineteenth person to call! Congrats! Who are you?” Just then, Silvia gave a little scream as she did a little dance around Chelsea. She turned on the radio to 92.5. “Woah! Seems like your friend is going to have a heart attack or something! Let me guess, she’s dancing! Okay, anyway, you made it, but do you know the rules of this contest?”

“Yes, yes!” Chelsea quickly replied, a triumphant look on her face. “Does that mean we get to meet them?”

“Oh no! Not so fast! You still have to answer this simple, simple question in order to meet the Backstreet Boys…” Chelsea’s expression fell. Silvia stopped dancing, “Okay, this is the question, what is the extra song, which isn’t in Millennium, that is in the Backstreet boys latest single?”

“If you knew what I knew!” Chelsea immediately blurted out. “If you knew what I knew!” She repeated. There was silence.

“Yes! You’ve got it! Two of your friends and you are gonna fly all the way to Orlando to see the Backstreet Boys live in concert and meet them privately afterwards!” The DJ announced in a sing song voice.

“Oh my God! Oh my God! Thank you! Thank you!” Chelsea jumped up and hugged Silvia tightly.

“Okay, great! I will connect you to another line and there’ll be this woman there and she’ll ask you for the particulars. Oh yeah, and for the third time, who are you?”

“Chelsea and Silvia!” Chelsea smiled and bit her lip excitedly.

“Bye Chelsea and Silvia! So we’ll see you later!”

Not long, a woman spoke up, “Kiss 92, how may I help you?”

“Uh, this is Chelsea and Silvia, we won the ‘Fly to Backstreet’ contest,” Chelsea said nervously.

“Oh yes, I knew that… okay, you have 48 hours to get down to the station to get everything. And I’ll also need some information about you now. Name?”

“Chelsea Gabriele, and Silvia Andrews.”

“Address?”

“70 Sheila Crescent, Richmond Hill.”

“Phone number?”

“(905) 886 3409,” Chelsea could hear the woman writing quickly. Her heart was beating faster than a horse could run. Her hands were sweating as she told herself to calm down.

“Right, okay, you’re all set. Let me repeat, you have to get a third person for me to write down or else your offer would be immediately canceled. You have 48 hours. This is Kiss 92 and have a good day.”

Chelsea hung up and fell back on her bed with Silvia next to her, “I can’t believe we did it. I mean, I was so freaked man!”

“Yeah I know! And the DJ was making the question sound so hard! I can’t believe we’re gonna meet them. Finally! My dream has come true! I’m finally gonna meet AJ Mclean!” Silvia gave a little scream.

*knock, knock* “Come in!” Chelsea said.

“Girls, could you please quiet down please. Your little sister just fell asleep.” Chelsea’s mom, Helen, told them.

“Oh my God mom! You will never believe what happened! I won! I won the contest! I’m gonna meet them! This is like, a dream come true mom!” Chelsea jumped up and hugged her mom.

“Who honey?” Her mom asked, surprised.

“The Backstreet Boys! Remember?”

“Oh yes, but… but I’m not sure…” Helen hesitated.

“But mom! You promised! If I ever win a contest to meet someone, you’d let me go!” Chelsea exclaimed.

Helen sighed as she gave a little smile, “Okay, but girls just keep it down!” She closed the door quietly.

“Oh my God!” Chelsea shrieked.

“Ok, ok! Cut it out! You’ve like, said ‘Oh-my-God’ like, 15 million times already! I’m excited but at least I’m not repeating everything I say!”

Chelsea grinned, “Yeah I know. But, you know, it’s just so exciting! Oh yeah, who are we going to invite to go with us?”

“Are you kidding? Like, we’re really going to get a third person in this without even doing anything!” Silvia rolled her eyes.

“Sorry Sil, we have to, or else we can’t go. So who are we going to invite?” Chelsea repeated as she sat down on her desk. She found some paper and a pen and started doodling on it.

“How about Kristin?” Silvia asked casually. She found a star shaped file and started filing her fingers.

“Are you kidding me? She cried in class yesterday because she forgot her History book! Besides, I think she likes N* Sync,” Chelsea objected. She sat down across from Silvia on her bed. Magazines were lying all over the place as she tried to find the latest magazine.

“Linda?” Silvia tried again.

“She picks her nose in public.”

“Stacie?”

“Too bitchy.”

“Mary?”

“Nerd.”

“Angel?”

“Geek.”

“Oh geez! I give up! Who do you think should go with us then?” Silvia threw the nail file in exasperation. It knocked Chelsea’s favorite picture of her dog off the lamp, the frame cracked. “Oops,” Silvia said sheepishly.

“Never mind that,” Chelsea gave a long hard thought and then she finally said, “Willow.”

“Her? She bitches about in class, flirts with a ton of guys in class, even the damn teacher man! Why do you choose her? I’d rather you take your sister with us!” Silvia exclaimed as she rolled her eyes unbelievably.

“You just don’t understand do you? Do you have the most posh and expensive magazines? Do you have your personal hair stylist running to you every morning just to set your hair?” Chelsea explained.

“Oh I see. You think that she would even let us touch her magazines? And she’d cut off all our hair if we ever use her hair stylist.” Silvia leaned back and picked up a magazine. “Playgirl? Geez, you are some horny babe, gal!” Silvia laughed as she flipped through the erotic magazine anyway.

“It’s not mine. Will – Willow lent it to me. You seem to be enjoying yourself anyway.”

“Oh God. Don’t tell me that you’re already her new best friend.” Silvia rolled her eyes again. “Ooh, look at this guy…”

Chelsea gave a weak smile, “She likes me,” she shrugged.

“Don’t say that I didn’t warn you girl, she’s dangerous. Look what happened to her other so-called best friends.” Silvia put down the magazine and bit her lip as she looked at Chelsea.

“What happened anyway? I keep hearing those rumors.”

“I bet they’re true. Anyway, they’re just rumors, better be careful yourself. You won the contest, I guess you make the decision. If you want to choose her, then it’s totally fine with me. You tell her tomorrow at school.” Silvia concluded as the two 17 year olds tried to keep their excitement in.
