“Rise and shine girls!” Chelsea’s dad shouted cheerily inside the messy bedroom. “Whoa girl, what did you do here yesterday?” her dad exclaimed at the mess lying around his feet as he tried to make his way to the curtain-closed window. He tore them open and sunlight came streaming in like a stream of clear water. Chelsea and Silvia groaned but they remained in the bed with their pillows over their heads. Chelsea’s father grinned as he grabbed the pillows from them and shouted, “Wake up! It’s Monday morning, and time for school!”

“Argh… DAD!” Chelsea yelled as she stifled a tired yawn. Silvia and her had stayed up till five in the morning last night just talking about everything they wanted to do in their lifetime. Both of them had thought it would be fun to make a little bet so they decided on, ‘whoever loses their virgin last loses 50 bucks’ deal and they intended to keep it. Silvia sat up and glanced at the Backstreet Boys clock on hanging in between numerous posters of the same five celebrities. Her eyes widened in surprise as she read the time off the clock.

“But Mr. Gabriele, it’s only 6:45!” Silvia exclaimed.

Chelsea sat up immediately, “Oh… dad! How could you!” Chelsea groaned as she too glanced at the clock to check if Silvia read the wrong time.

“You stuck a note onto your door saying that you wanted to be waken up at 6:45 Chels,” he thrust a hand written note that said ‘Wake me up at 6:45 dad.’

“I didn’t write this! Did Bret come back last night?” Chelsea asked suspiciously.

“Um, yeah he did. Why?” he asked.

“Because dad! Bret wrote this! Not me! He stuck this note on my door as a lame and lousy joke!” Chelsea threw her hands up in exasperation.

“Oh.”

Silvia laughed as she got up from the bed and stretched herself, “Hey, why don’t I wake up your brother while Chels, you can finish blowing up at your dad.”

“Yeah sure.” she winked, knowing that Silvia had a long term crush on her brother. At first, Chelsea had laughed and thought that she was just joking but then, she realized that she wasn’t and promised her best friend that she will do anything to help her ‘get attached’ with her brother. “But still, I still don’t get why you liked him for so long. I mean, you’ve been here enough times to discover his pig personality.” Were the exact words.

“Maybe that’s why I like him!” was Silvia’s response.

Silvia tiptoed as quietly as she could down the corridor to Chelsea’s brother’s room. She could smell the pancakes and waffles downstairs that Chelsea’s mom was making. Thinking back, she remembered that day when she first met Bret. It was pouring outside and Chelsea’s parents were worried about Bret, about him catching a cold because he didn’t bring an umbrella and everything. Just then, the door swung open and Bret walked in, wet from head to toe wearing a white shirt that became see through because of the rain. The few buttons were left unbuttoned to show his bare chest. His slick black pants clung onto him. He brushed his hair back and for a moment, he noticed the unexpected guest sitting next to his sister and waved a quick hello then left to change. For a brief moment, he actually looked interested. Silvia stopped abruptly as he came upon Bret’s door. She took a deep breath and got ready to knock on the door when suddenly, the door flew open and there was Bret, his blondey-brown hair messed up. His wrinkled pajamas. He was… yawning. Not exactly the most beautiful movement to be seeing. But it’s cute Silvia thought and she gave a small smile. “Morning.” she greeted him.

He was startled to hear Silvia’s cheery voice greeting him, “Oh, morning,” he quickly mumbled. He wondered if his breath stank. Bret brushed his hair casually as he made his way to the washroom. He paused, “Do you need it?”

“Uh, no, you can go first.”

As soon as the door was closed, Silvia ran back to his room. Being careful on not to step on all the clothes and CDs lying on the carpeted floor, she searched around. Silvia didn’t know why she was doing this but she felt that it was a need. She opened a drawer carefully as she found a new, unopened… Playboy. “Horny brothers and horny sisters,” she grinned, “must run in the family,” she muttered to herself as she stuffed the magazine back in the drawer. She decided that it was time to get out of the room and when she was at the door, Bret was just turning around the corner. She gasped as she ran back inside his room to search for a place to hide. Looking around desperately, she slid herself underneath the bed just as Bret walked in. He was humming the stupid tune of a game show. Silvia tried her best not to laugh as she covered her mouth.

“Hey Bret, seen Sil?” asked Chelsea as she suddenly opened the door, “Oh sick, can’t you lock the door when you’re admiring your fat blobs in the mirror?”

“They’re called muscles Chels.” Bret told her sarcastically, “and no, I haven’t seen her.”

“Um, okay,” Chelsea made the action to close the door when something moving underneath her brother’s bed caught her attention. She quickly flung the door back open. “Sil!” She blurted out.

“I told you , I haven’t seen her Chels. And do you mind not to fling the door so hard. It’s coming off its hinges you know.”

“Uh, yeah! I forgot to tell you, um, mom told you to go down for breakfast! Yeah, that’s it, breakfast!” Chelsea said hurriedly.

“I’ll come down in a sec. You go down first.” Bret told her sister.

“But you can’t!”

“Bye Chels.” Bret repeated as he shut the door and locked it. He walked over to his desk and picked up the receiver. “Hello, may I speak to Jennifer please? Yeah, thanks.”

Jennifer? Who’s Jennifer? Silvia wondered as she continued to listen suspiciously.

“Hey babe! It’s me. Want me to pick you up today? Yeah, I get the car today, my brat sister’s friend is over and my dad’s gonna take them. Yeah I know, I’m getting a new car on my 19th birthday. Anyway, you’re cool with it? Okay, I’ll drop by at eight. Bye babe, love you.” Bret turned to his full length mirror and started changing. After spraying some cologne, he finally went downstairs for breakfast. Silvia, red-eyed, crawled out from under the bed and walked out the room. Her legs felt as if they couldn’t support her weight. As she passed the full length mirror, she took a look at herself. She wasn’t fat. In fact, Silvia thought that she had quite a good figure. Her dark brown hair was styled sophisticatedly. She leaned forward to take a closer look at herself. Just then, she heard some loud footsteps. She turned around, afraid to find Bret staring at her. It was Chelsea.

“Oh God! Sil! Get out before Bret comes back!” Chelsea said quickly, her hand making motions as if to control Silvia.

“Chels!” Silvia ran over to Chelsea and hugged her tightly, “Didn’t you know that your brother had a girlfriend?”

“Really?” Chelsea asked, stunned, “Gee, I didn’t know that pig was so attractive. It doesn’t matter, you’ll find yourself a better target than my brother. He doesn’t deserve you. And, let’s get our asses outta here before Bret’s back.” Silvia let go of Chelsea and went back to Chelsea’s room. Changing quickly, Silvia couldn’t think of anything else that could possibly ruin her day anymore.
