Christine flopped down on her bed, her face flushed with happiness as she thought about her performance at the club that night. She rolled over on her stomach and noticed the name card lying on her dresser. She picked it up and started playing around with it, wondering if she should call or not. She flipped the card over, it was blank. She flipped it back to the front. She sighed heavily. Standing up, she decided to give Alexia a call.

“Hello! You have reached McDonalds! May I take your order please?” Alexia answered the phone in a phony British accent.

“Yeah, uh, can I have a Coke with uh, no fizz?”

“Huh?”

“What?”

“Forget it Chrissy! Tell me everything that happened tonight!” Alexia said excitedly.

“Oh my God Ally, you would never believe what happened!” Christine squealed with excitement. “It was a total blast! You should’ve been there girl! Everybody loved my song! Everybody loved me! And the best of all…” Christine paused for effect.

“What?” Alexia replied, with ecstasy.

“This guy came to me and said if I wanted to be a professional!” Christine squealed.

“Oh my God Christine, I’m so happy for you. I’m so sorry that I couldn’t make it, but you know my cousins, they’re such brats and I had to stay to watch them.”

“It’s ok, Alexia, really, some people actually asked me for my autograph! Isn’t that awesome?”

“Yeah, but um, what did you say to the guy?”

“Him? Oh, I was like, standing there for like what, 10 minutes and he stood there waiting for me to answer him and then he got fed up and then gave me his card, and then told me to call him if I’m interested. I was like, of course I’m interested! But I didn’t say anything… I still have the card, thank God I didn’t lose it, but you see, I don’t know what I should do with it. I know my parents would absolutely disagree if I tell them…” All of a sudden, Christine’s mood changed from excitement to sadness, she sighed, “What do you think I should do?”

“Personally, I think you should just tell them. I mean, it’s the 21st century! No parents have control over what their kids want to be!”

“Really? I don’t know, I don’t know how to confront them. I mean, what would their reaction be?” Christine asked nervously, her voice lowered to a whisper. “I’m so scared that they’ll forbid it.”

“Well I can’t help you. I’m sorry but it’s your problem that you’ll have to solve. You’ll have to tell them sooner or later Chrissy.”

“Yeah, thanks anyway. I just wanted to tell you about tonight.”

“Hey, I’m always here if you need me. By the way, does your parent’s know about your job?”

“No…” Christine drifted off.

“Bummer, they’ll explode, tell them that you haven’t been to work yet, say that you are interested in it and then, say they agree and then tell them about the guy… what’s his name?”

“What the guy that gave me his card? Trevor…” Christine glanced down at the card she was still holding in her hand, “Nelson.”

“Hmm, I see, so uh, go tell your parents about the job and then tell me everything that happens, ok? I’ll see you tomorrow.” Alexia hung up, leaving the dial tone ringing clearly in Christine’s ears. She sighed again and placed the phone back into its cradle. Glancing at the digital clock on her dresser, she realized that it was already 12:30 am. She put the card in her diary and decided that it was time to confront her parents. Opening her bedroom door, she heard that her parents were still awake, watching some movie that they rented. Something funny came on and she heard her father laugh loudly. She made her way to the den and stood at the doorway. Her mother noticed her first.

“What’s wrong dear?”

“Uh, there’s something I want to tell you about…”
