My Elendor and J.R.R. Tolkien Page

Mae govvanen and welcome, mellyn!(Well met and welcome, friends!). You have found my webpage!

My name is Jordan Lessing and I am the person who plays Eranar at ElendorMUSH.

I have many interests. One of my main ones is reading the J.R.R. Tolkien novels. I have a very high opponion of him, as does just about everybody else on Elendor. Some if his more famous nevels are "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy(The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Retrn of the King), and the Silmarillion. Some of his less-known works are The Book of Lost Tales, Morgoth's Ring, and The Shaping of Middle Earth.

The Hobbit is about a Hobbit named Bilbo that is joined wit a group of thirteen dwarves by a wizard they call Gandalf. Gandal recruits Bilbo into the company with Thorin Oakenshield and some others. They have many adventures. They are attacted by yrch(that is Sindarin(Elvish) for 'orcs') in the Misty Mountains while going to Imladris/Rivendell(A city of Elves). If ou would like a dictionary to the Elven tongues, you could always go here. But anyway, after Bilbo does They are captured by the Elves of Mirkwood and taken into the Wood-Elves' hill with it's magical golden gates that only open on command. They eventually get to Esgaroth and are greeted none too friendly by the lake-men. They are sent with supplies to go to the Lonely Mountain where they encounter the dragon himself, Smaug the Golden!

But now you ask, "Okay Eranar, but what is a hobbit?" I say what J.R.R. Tolkien said:
They are (or were) a little people, about half our height, and smaller than the bearded dwarves. Hobbits have no beards. There is little or no magic about them, except the ordinary everyday sort of magic which helps them to disappear quickly when largre, stupid folk like you and me come blundering along, making a noise like elephants which they can hear a mile off. They are inclined to be fat in the stomach; they dress in bright colours (chiefly green and yellow); wear no shoes, because thier feet grow natural leathery soles and thick, warm brown hair like the sutff on thier heads (which is curly); have long, clever bown fingers, good-natured faces, and laugh deep, fruity laughs (especially after dinner, which they have twice a day when they can get it).

Well, now that I have told you what a hobbit is, perhaps you would like to go to the homepage for the Shire on ElendorMUSH. Well, actually it's just Fredegar's page...it used to be the homepage for the Shire though.

Well, now that I have explained that, I'll tell you what LOTR is about. You see, in The Hobbit, Bilbo kind-of "stole" a ring from Gollum, even though he just found it. This ring made him invisible, yes. But the ring is also evil. Long ago, in the Second Age of Middle Earth, there were many fine rings with stange powers crafted. Now among these were the Great Rings. Now there were the Three, forged by the Elven Smiths for the Three Elven kings. There were seven for the dwarf-lords. There were nine for mortal men. Now, Sauron soon learned of these and became jealous. He forged the One Ring . This ring was made by Sauron himself and much of his power he passed into it, making the ring completely evil.

Three rings for the Elven kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-Lords in thier halls of stone,
Nine for mortal Men doomed to die,
One ring for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to bind them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.

That is the Poem of the rings. Well, Bilbo, as I said, took this ring and brouth it home to the Shire, where he kept it. At first, this was just an innocent ring, but then Bilbo became obsessed with it, not feeling it to be safe anywhere, always trying to hide it and putting it on and such. One day, Gandalf came to Frodo(Bilbo's heir), thinking it to possibly be the One reappearing again, after over a thousand years of having dissapeared. (I won't go into the details about how Gollum go it, but...) Now there was one last test Gandalf had to preform upon it to be sure. He threw it in the fire and left it. He then took it back out. It was still cool! A thin inscription was shown now on the inside of it in the Black Speech that translated to said, "One ring to rule them all, One ring to bind them, One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." which, as you have seen, is a part of the Poem of the Rings. Now Gandalf told Frodo of the Rings and how Gollum came to have this ring. He also told him that there were Nazgul, the Wringwraiths, the Nine mortal Men that were doomed to die, were about and searching for it and that Frodo would have to take it to Imldaris to seek the wisdom of Lord Elrond. With Nazgul behind and Mordor and more danger ahead, Frodo took it upon himself, after having the wisdom of Elrond, to go to Mordor and destroy the One, risking everything, even his life and Sauron getting it again. He went with a company totalling nine. the Nine Walkers against the Nine Riders. There was Frodo of course; Gimli, son of Gloin; Merry Brandybuck, a friend of Frodo's; Peregrin Took, another friend; Samwise Gamgee, Frodo's servant; Aragorn, son of Arathorn, Boromir, son of the Steward of Gondor, Denethor; and lastly, but certainly not least, Legolas, son of the King of Amon Thranduil, Thranduil(the Elven king of The Hobbit).
They encounter many dangers and face many challenges along the way to Mordor. This I would account as Tolkien's best series of books.

Another of my favorite things to do is to MUSH. a MUSH is a Mulit-User-Shared-Halluciantion. It is a lot like those all-text games that were popualr in the seventies. They are very popular with people in colleges and things like that. My ablosutely favorite MUSH is named Elendor. It is a MUSH based upon Tolkien's books. It is set between the time of The Hobbit and the time of LOTR. Some of the cultures' pages I have been to. To see the Elendor homepage, you could click here. There is the Unnoficial Amon Thranduil Homepage, which is the culture I belong to. There is the Unnoficial Homepage for Lothlorien. I think that they are both *VERY* eccelent pages. I also have one of my better friends on Elendor Webpage addy, Gallia. I, as I said, belong to Elendor. It is one of my main social outlets. I can be found there as Eranar of Amon Thranduil. I am the Aravosante (Chief Trader) there and am friendly and will help anybody who needs it. If you see me online, page me by all means!
