Norway's Bjarte Engen Vik comfortably won the individual nordic combined. He finished 27.5 seconds ahead of the silver medallist. Vik blew away the competition in the ski jumping portion with 241 points. That earned him a 36 second advantage for the 15km cross-country section. Vik's 94.5 jump on the normal hill was actually three metres longer than the best of the actual ski jumping competition a few days earlier. Samppa Lajunen won the silver medal just ahead of the third place finisher, Valeri Stoljarov of Russia. The Finn was 27.5 seconds behind of Vik and Stoljarov was 28.2 seconds behind. Stoljarov was second after the ski jumping portion and Lajunen was sixth but Lajunen was almost half a second faster in the 15km cross-country.
