How was Chloe originally described to you? In the breakdowns she was compared to Gwyneth Paltrow and Audrey Hepburn. I think it was sort of their energy, life force and attributes.
And how do you see the character? I think of Audrey Hebpurn in Roman Holiday. There’s a lot of that, because Chloe is an aristocrat but she’s also very down-to-earth. Having the money and all the things she has don’t matter to her one bit. Also, she’s in love with life, and very ebullient and inspired by everything.
Did you know you got the job after your screen test? I tested with Ingo Rademacher. At one point, Wendy Riche came down and said, “We’ll do it until we get it right.” The producers/directors kept giving me notes about what they wanted from me. So I kept trying, and Ingo and I did the scene a couple of more times. Then Wendy came down again and said, “OK, we’re done.” I thought: Oh, no. She just gave up on me. I really didn’t think I got the job.
Who was the first person you told when you learned you got the job? My boyfriend, Michael.
How did you celebrate? I went out to dinner that night with my boyfriend. Then, a couple of days later, we had a get-together with some friends at a place called Lola’s. We had drinks and many toasts and just got silly.
What do you consider the biggest perk of this job? I’m a person who sees all the perks. I love having my hair and makeup done. That’s really good fun. Wardrobe is fantastic. But the biggest perk was just being able to call my parents and tell them I’d gotten a job that they could watch me do. Having a job to go to everyday is the most beautiful thing there is; a dream. I still knock on wood every day.
And ideas on how you want to spend the steady paycheck? I’ve never been to Europe, so I’d like to treat myself to a trip to Paris. I’d love to go to Italy, too. My parents were married in Pisa and lived in Florence for a while. I would want to go and take my mom with me so she could show me around.
Who was the nicest to you your first day on the job? Kristina Wagner was the person I had my first scenes with, and she was absolutely adorable. She came up to me and said, “Do you want to run lines?” I was so excited about that. I felt like I wanted to run lines with everybody, but I didn’t want to put people on the spot. For her to come up to me like that was just a thrill.
Had you ever watched soaps before? My dad forbade me when I was growing up. He’d say, “Go out and play. Be outside.” So when I got this job, I called him and said, “Dad, I know you never let me watch soaps, but you never said I couldn’t be on one.” He laughed. Now the man who would never let me watch soaps is probably going to be watching.
Do you have any friends or family who are GH viewers? My Aunt Kathy wrote me a note and told me that she’s been watching GH since she was in high school. So she’s thrilled to have me on it. A good friend of mine, Anne, has a grandmother who watches faithfully, and so does my boyfriend’s mother, Bjorg. She really got a big kick out of this. She was crying over Lucky’s death, then found out I was joining GH and was thrilled.
Is there anyone you have been palling around with on the set? I like everybody. I’ve already had lunch with Stuart Damon, John Ingle, and Ingo. Lisa Cerasoli is great, really good fun. She had worked on my boyfriend’s show, so we had that bond.
Is there an actor/actress you’ve always dreamed of working with? Robert Duvall. I could watch him until I die. I think he’s brilliant. I just saw him the other night in Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise. He has a lovely spirit and an energy about him. I would love to work with him and have him play my dad. That would be so cool.
