EAT HEALTHy & prePLAN your meals

It is a challenge to eat healthy these days.
But then, what is our quality of life like if we become sick and
unhappy with our health as a result of unhealthy eating habits?
Relying on fast food and hurried eating is a habit that has a
disastrous effect on our body as it puts unnecessary stress and
deposits unnecessary reserves of fat. For those of us who care about
being healthy and staying healthy and fit, here are a few ideas:

_eat 5 small meals a day (including healthy snacks)
_preplan your meals (pack your meals the day before)
_eat a mix of protein, complex carbs and essential fats
_drink about a cup of water every couple of hours
_eat fresh vegetables and fruit
_take a multi-vitamin every day
_avoid coffee and sodas
_exercise

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, May 20, 2004

Communicate your emotions and feelings with those around you.
Do not assume that the person you love knows your thoughts.
Sometimes we all have things on our mind that we keep to ourselves,
but overall, expressing our concerns and doubts to the person who
cares about you is a good thing to do.
Keeping unresolved issues to ourselves is a quick-fix
way to deal with emotions, but open communication, no matter
how direct, is the healthier and more productive alternative.

Ultimately, it is your choice what you want your life to be like.

Challenge yourself to do something you are unfamiliar with.
Make it a project; dream up an idea and finish it.
Also, make sure to make it FUN and open your mind.
Get ready to learn something in the process.
It is easy to get stuck with routine...
It is too easy to be in status quo.
Way too easy.
GO!

FEW PROVERBS FOR THE MIND:

A person is known by the company he keeps
A picture paints a thousand words
A problem shared is a problem halved
A prophet is not recognized in his own land
A rolling stone gathers no moss
A thing of beauty is a joy forever
A volunteer is worth twenty pressed men
A watched pot never boils
Absolute power corrupts absolutely
Actions speak louder than words
All good things come to he who waits
All that glisters is not gold
All the world loves a lover
All things must pass

Learn as if you were going to live forever.
Live as if you were going to die tomorrow.

--Mahatma Gandhi

Life is not a static thing. The only people who do not change
their minds are incompetents in asylums, and those in cemeteries.

--Everett McKinley Dirksen

You are the same today that you are going to be five years from now except
for two things: the people with whom you associate and the books you read.

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, April 15, 2004

Excerpt from article in L.A Times by Crispin Sartwell

"The Genocidal Killer in the Mirror"

"Are you a moral hero? The qualities that are needed to
recruit a person to genocide are widely shared.

- Deference to authority
- Response to social concensus
- Wilingness to respond to people as members of groups,
and to expect groups, overall, to display certain qualities.
- Desire for your own security and that of your family
and friends, to the extent you are willing to make moral
compromises to preserve it..."

Does that describe you? Think about it.

Excerpt from "Tesla - Life and Legacy - A Weapon to End War"

"Tesla inherited from his father a deep hatred of war.
Throughout his life, he sought a technological way to end warfare. He
thought that war could be converted into, "a mere spectacle of machines."
In 1931 Tesla announced to reporters at a press conference that he
was on the verge of discovering an entirely new source of energy. Asked to
explain the nature of the power, he replied, "The idea first came upon me
as a tremendous shock... I can only say at this time that it will come
from an entirely new and unsuspected source..."

Tesla hoped that his invention would be used for purely defensive purposes,
and thus would become an anti-war machine. His system required a series
of power plants located along a country's coast that would scan the skies
in search of enemy aircraft. Since the beam was projected in a
straight line, it was only effective for about 200 miles — the distance
of the curvature of the earth.

Tesla also contemplated peacetime applications for his particle beam, one
being to transmit power without wires over long distances. Another
radical notion he proposed was to heat up portions of the upper atmosphere
to light the sky at night — a man-made aurora borealis..."

"Shall I tell you what the real evil is?
To cringe to the things that are called evils, to surrender to them
our freedom, in defiance of which we ought to face any suffering."

--Seneca, Letters to Lucilius

Thursday, March 4, 2004

Appreciate your family!
Think about your parents and siblings. How long has it been
since you talked to them? Have you "grown apart" from them?
Every new day is a perfect new opportunity to renew
your connection with your family members. Arguments can
be resolved when both parties are willing to communicate.
People come in and out of our lives, but family always
remains there for you. Help your parents. They have invested
a lot of time, energy and money in you. Be there when they
need you. Show your unconditional love for them.

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, February 26, 2004

"People come into your life for a REASON, A SEASON, OR LIFETIME.

When you know which one it is for a person, you will know what to
do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it
is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to
assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and
support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually.
They may seem like a Godsend, and they are!
They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrong doing on your part, or at an inconvenient time,
this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an
end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they
act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that
our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered, and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn
has come to share, grow, or learn. They bring you an experience of
peace, or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have
never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons -things you must
build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your
job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have
learned to use in all other relationship and areas of your life."

Here is a challenge for you...

Be totally unselfish / helpful / giving ONE DAY this week.
Examples of things you can do: smile and greet everyone,
call your family members and express your love for them,
buy a meal for a homeless person on the street,
buy groceries for an old lady living next door,
give away some towels to an animal shelter,
give some of your old clothes to Salvation Army,
buy flowers for a lonely person at work anonymously,
treat a friend to a lunch or dinner.

Can you think of anything else that would surprise
those around you? Defy the norm! Disobey the limits!

Get CREATIVE today...
Make a painting...draw a picture...take an amazing photo.
It is simple: get a canvas, brushes and some paint and let
your imagination flow. It feels good to express yourself.
Do this for yourself...not for anybody else. Don't worry
whether others will judge your work; it's your own creation.
Go outside and take a photo of whatever catches your attention.
Try using a black and white film...you will love the results.
Have the photo developed and enlarged. Frame it and display it
wherever you'd like. By allowing yourself to be creative,
you are tapping into your inner potential to grow and expand
your ability to express yourself in different ways.
This is an opportunity to live life in color!

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, January 22, 2004

Assess your BElief system. What do you believe in?

God? Which one? Is it Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed?
Do you believe that you create your own destiny?
Is it possible for all 6 billion people to share same beliefs?
Is it necessary to believe in something as we travel through life?
Is it important to have infinite guidance as we express
our individuality by making unique choices every day?
Do beliefs enrich our lives and improve our relationships
with others? Or do they limit our willingness to get along
with those individuals who do not share our beliefs?
Is it necessary to really question beliefs you grew up with?
Does that make us rebellious or just curious and progressive?

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, January 15, 2004

Our eyes are "windows to our soul."
They are, also, "windows to our mind" since all that
we SEE (our reality) gets absorbed and processed
in our ever-thirsty MIND. It seems like a great idea,
therefore, to put stimulating, motivating, positive
information in front of our 'baby blues' every day.
We, also, have an ability (if there is willingness)
to limit our exposure to unproductive, dull, repetitive
visual material (for example, too much TV, same
monotonous surroundings). Those can be easily replaced
by exposing ourselves to new people, new environments,
new activities, new skills....there is no limit.

Do your own research.
This is the information SUPERage...
We have an ability to access information from many
different sources: internet, TV, radio, newspaper.
That empowers us to get reliable, truthful information,
gives us an ability to research the credibility of the
media sources (focus on the objective truth, not a mere
manipulated subjective interpretation). We are used to
trusting the media, but in this SUPERage of shady
political agendas and special-interest-controlled
media, we can take control of making our own judgements
and decisions - based on researched facts. It is easier
to get news sitting on the couch watching TV, but
using multiple sources of media coverage and especially
internet is definitely more enlightening.
Online...go to any search engine and type
"news" or "real news" > Enjoy the show...

New Year...
Time to renew unachieved goals from the previous year...
Time to dream big and create NEW DREAMS.
Hopefully the aspiration is to do something AMAZING...
something that requires a lot of imagination and growth.
We can use this great opportunity to push ourselves
to grow in unimaginable ways. We can also set some
not-so-grand goals...something that can be achieved
with less effort and perseverance. Fulfilling those goals
can help encourage your thirst and boost your determination
for pursuing the other bigger-than-life goals.
Get started...you are going to have an AMAZING year!

Progressive Deep Muscle Relaxation

Starting at your head, tense one of your muscle groups
(eyes, jaw, forehead) around your face for 5 to 7 seconds,
then immediately let go of the tension. Relax as completely
as you can for about 30 seconds before going on to a new muscle
group. When you finish with your head, repeat the tightening
and relaxing process for the other muscle groups of your body:
neck, shoulders, arms, back, stomach, legs, feet.

It will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes to relax your
entire body, and when you're through - if you've done it
properly - you should feel relaxed and refreshed.

Conduct a little experiment.
Arrange a stack of photos of yourself in a chronological
order (childhood pictures through present time)
in an album. Give the album to someone who doesn't know
you well (friend of a friend, friend of a relative)
and ask them to write a short story / interpretation
of how they perceive the person in the photos (personality,
life story, style, development). The goal of this experiment
is to see yourself as others see you. That information
could help you see yourself from a different new perspective.
Or you can just get some laughs out of it!

Halloween History

Halloween is said to be derived from Samhain, pronouced "SOW
(rhymes with cow)-in", defined by the Irish Texts Society as:
All Hallowtide, the feast of the dead in Pagan and Christian
times, signalling the close of harvest and the initiation of
the winter season. The Celts called it Hallowtide or the Feast
of All Souls. Samhain is derived from a combination of
"sam" and "fuin" meaning the end of summer and the beginning
of a new year. The day before Samhain is the last day of summer
(or the old year) and the day after Samhain is the first day
of winter (or of the new year). Being “between” seasons or years,
Samhain was considered a very magical time, when the dead walk
among the living and the veils between past, present and
future may be lifted in prophecy and divination.
BOOOO....truth is always tasty!
Stay away from too much booze, sex, or candy this Halloween.
Nothing is good in excess.

Make your daily boring drive to work productive!
Most of us (especially here in L.A.) spend a lot of time
in a car...listening to talk radio, music or just feeling
and looking bored and preoccupied with deep thoughts.
Next time you are on the freeway, take a look at the drivers
next to you...it's a scary sight > We look like zombies!
Before you surrender to the Twilight zone, here are some of the
things you can do to keep or improve your wellbeing
while driving your car:

- Listen to relaxing music to keep you energized and tranquil,
- Carry bottled water to keep hydrated,
- Have some meal-replacement bars with you in case you get hungry,
- Learn a foreign language (on tape or CD),
- Listen to a book on tape (MOTIVATIONAL, INFOrmational,
NOVEL, COMEDY...whatever you enjoy!)
- Smile at other drivers (watch the reactions you get!)

Beats being bored > listening to crickets chirp,
hearing same old songs on the radio, and looking like a
lifeless drueling zombie...Have fun!

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, October 9, 2003

Slow down your thoughts!
There is a constant flow of thoughts in our heads.
Some of the thoughts are creative, positive and encouraging.
Mind is also bombarded with dangerous unnecessary
self-depreciating thoughts (worry, fear, criticism).
Unfortunately, those negative thoughts have a powerful
influence on our outlook on life and our goals and actions.
They can be demotivating and self-destructive.
They can, also, extinguish our aspirations and motivation
(if left untouched/untreated). It doesn't have to be that way.
By learning to slow down your thoughts, you can choose the
thoughts that run through your mind. Meditation is a great
way to start this self-repairing process. You will, also,
need to start replacing the negative talk with realistic
positive internal dialogue (in your mind). For more info
on that process, look at Step 3 of MindTune.
EnJOY...HELP your MIND help you be your BEST!

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Dreams and goals may seem far away if they only exist
in our minds. However, even the biggest, wildest dreams
gain momentum once we've committed them on paper.
By seeing a list of our desires, we can put together
step-by-step plans and move closer to fulfilling them.
Nothing feels better than looking back and realizing
OUR SUCCESS.

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

INFORMATION is the key to LIFE!
Intelligence isn't worth much without knowledge.
We gather information through personal experiences and
through what we WATCH, READ and HEAR from multimedia sources.
It, therefore, makes sense to collect as much information as
possible before creating opinions and making judgments.
Media offers fairly biased perspective of objective reality.
Our MIND gives us an advantage (if we choose to use it) to gather
information, process it, and create an educated rational reality,
which decides what our lives will be like. It is in our hands.
We have a choice to create the reality around us...with the right
information. Life is more of an open-ended essay than
it is a multiple-choice question. Gather the right information
before making life-altering decisions.
Keep an open mind.

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, September 18, 2003

You have one BODY...take care of it.
If you don't fully understand how that complex "machine" works,
inform yourself by reading an anatomy and physiology book or go
online and research. Like a nice fast Ferrari Modena, your body needs
superior fuel and regular maintenance for best performance. We often
neglect and take our physical health for granted and wait until it
deteriorates. Then, when it's already too late, we deal with the
problem and start paying attention to our body. In reality, it's
not that difficult to keep our body in optimum running condition.
It does take work, however, and it involves healthy eating habits,
regular exercise, and avoidance of self-destructive behavior
(moderation is always good). Benefits? Great health, high energy,
amazing sex drive, positive self-image, mental clarity, and much more.

Take a good look at your body...does it need maintenance,
tuneup or more serious work? It's important to assess your condition!
Whatever your body needs to run at its best, there is NO time
to waste. Once that engine stops, you are dead, literally...with no
hope or help. There is hope if you decide to progress and improve
your habits TODAY. Make time for yourself.
Help your body help you live your life to the fullest!

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, September 11, 2003

It's YOUR time to SHINE if you desire it enough.
Do you have BIG dreams...and the WILL to achieve them?
Look deep inside and ask yourself what you TRULY want to
accomplish in your lifetime. You have limited time
in this physical plane. Are you satisfied with the current
life you have...or do you believe in achieving MORE...
growing, learning, becoming better at everything?
Do you feel that you may have the power and charisma
to help others in some way? Or are you concerned about
the world today and FEEL YOU HAVE to make a difference?
Do NOT be afraid to give it your best. Stand out and shout!
You will make a difference with your attitude and your
quest for enlightenment will be FULLfilled.
Desire for change is the antidote for complacency and
conformity. Do you want to be just like everyone else?
One mind CAN make a BIG difference.

Interplanetary INFLUENCE on OUR lives:

Red planet Mars is the closest to our green planet
than it has been in 60,000 years.
Planets have (to us yet not so clear) effect on
other planets in their proximity. There are various
forces at work (electromagnetic and gravitational,
for example) in this interplanetary "interaction."
As the planets get closer, there is an inevitable
effect on all organic life (inluding us humans).
Did you feel angry, irritable, anxious more than usual
over this past month? Did you have unexplainable
"bad" luck? Observe people around you acting unusual?
Those were just a few unpleasant effects of
interplanetary interaction between Mars and Earth.
On the positive side, once we acknowledge the
reality of that phenomenon, we might be able to
explore and learn from it (align ourselves with the
complex powers of the Universe).
By the way, Mars is already flying away!
No more excuses to be mad, mean, or ignorant ;)

Recognize that you can't please everyone all the time.
In fact, you can't please anyone all the time.
Letting go of the pressure you put on yourself to

Sometimes we wait to explore new things
when we are in a new place (trip / vacation),
but when we are in our everyday surroundings
we tend to forget to look at the things that
are slowly changing around us.
Take a moment in your everyday life

amazing changes in nature and you will be
surprised to find out how good those
small things can make you feel.

Wondering if "bad" things will

Carpe Diem...Seize the day!

Keep in mind that life is not a timed test,
where the goal is to finish as fast as possible.
Experience the peace that comes in slowing down
and being fully in each moment, rather than rushing
ahead to the next one. Enjoy the small things that
most of us take for granted: basking in the sun,
breathing in the fresh air, enjoying a meal,
talking to a friend, caring for a pet, having a
life companion, and many others.
Every day of your life is special and unique!

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, June 19, 2003

Oftentimes, our main motivation for losing weight
or sculpting the perfect looking body is our want
for looking good on the outside. We become consumed
in losing weight without much regard for our body's
need for proper nutrition. There is nothing wrong with
wanting to look great. After all, that is one of the
factors in creating our self-image.

But let us not forget our health.
Health is the foundation of our existence, so it should
be our main motivation in exercising and eating.
We often tend to imagine how our abs would look great
if only we lost more weight and gained more muscle, but
neglect to imagine our internal organs functioning
efficiently inside our healthy body.
Do you ever imagine your blood flowing smoothly from
one organ to another and all the nutrients being processed
for proper bodily functioning?
Maybe it's time that we try to imagine such events that we
cannot see, but are aware of. This kind of positive
visualization can bring beneficial results to your body.

Once health becomes our main motivation, looking great will follow.

"Without failure there is no achievement."

Failing is a sign of fearlessness. So get started:
Think about something you have always wanted
to do, but never thought you could:
Train for a marathon? Learn Japanese? Build
your own web page? As you're choosing a
challenge, bear this in mind: if at first you
succeed, try something HARDER!
Remember that the only way to reach your
FULL POTENTIAL is to push yourself to your
outer limits.

What is UNexplored life?
Does truly LIVING mean having a big house, car, family, dog?
Or does it mean having more than your neighbor?
Sometimes we lower our expectations in life,
mainly as a result of routine and circumstances.
Deep inside each person lays a DREAM, a desire
to rise above the mediocrity and routine life.
Some discover its existence....some never do.
Some decide to explore it...other put in on hold...
until it becomes too late.
Once you discover your passion / your DREAM...
once you feel IT and taste IT
you must pursue it with all your might!

"Learn...play...create...LIFE unfolds along the way."

Life is full of challenges and tests.
Every difficulty teaches us a valuable lesson.
Every difficulty can be overcome if the will

personal success and balance.

Never stop believing in your DREAMS!
There will ALWAYS be obstacles to overcome.

Dare yourself to persist on your way to
fulfilling your dreams and aspirations.
They are worth the time and effort...
They drive you and inspire you.

Brighten a child's day!
Do something positive and fun for a child
whether you have children or not...
get a new coloring book, read a book,

make mud pies, sing a song, get ice cream.
There are plenty of things that will
put a smile on a child's face :)

The world can be a scary insecure place at times.
You can find some comfort and a sense of direction
by turning to things that are most meaningful
to you...mainly family and loved ones.

and can make us all more positive and caring.
Cumulatively, we can rise above the desperation,

energy from a negative situation. With such an approach,
nothing can hold you back for long.

If you have trouble going to sleep, try developing daily sleep rituals.
It's important to give your body cues that say "Nighty night!"

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, January 23, 2003

Open your mind and heart to uncertainty!
Challenge youself with HUGE, HIGHLY DESIRABLE GOALS.
By not dreaming BIG, you may limit yourself
to small easily achievable reality.
Is that what you desire out of life? Ask yourself.
Choose things you REALLY desire in life and let that
drive and motivate you in your pursuit of happiness.
Getting everything out of life could be an indication
that you never allowed yourself to DREAM BIG.
Your goals must be something that you KNOW would
be GOOD and RIGHT for you...something worth the effort!
Face your fears and expect nothing but success.

You have EVERYTHING to gain.

Make an effort to give thanks to all those around you.
Thank them for being in your life...helping you become who you are.

Remember to thank yourself for your efforts and persistence in life.

It's hard these days to do nice things for complete strangers.
But there are some options left. There are some safe things you can do.
If you make a trip to the grocery store, on your way in or out...Help an elderly
person or someone with a disability load the groceries in the vehicle.
The total time you take out of your day for this noble task would amount up
to roughly five minutes...that's it! Again, you've made someone feel
like they were thought about, and they will never forget YOU...
That thought alone makes us feel so good inside...Noone can deny this
incredible human feeling when we help another person. It lives in everyone,
that warm feeling you feel when you open your heart to someone else.

Question: What is it? It's with you every day.
Once it breaks down, your life STOPS.

Answer: Your BODY

No matter what obstacles you have in your life, MAKE SURE to take care of your health!
Eating 4-5 small well-balanced preplanned meals is essential to not increasing your bodyfat.
(There are not many people who want to intentionally increase that!)
Dedicate at least 2 hours WEEKLY to do a cardiovascular activity (fastwalking, jogging,
running, kickboxing) > 30 minutes 4 times a week.
Help your body even more by resistance training: doing workouts with weights helps
not only strenghten the body, but also BURNS FAT, strenghtens the bones, helps relieve
stress and MAKES YOU ENERGETIC (those are just a few benefits!).
You can easily fit going to the gym or working out at home 3 times a week.
For a perfect balance, make sure you get enough rest (sleep) nightly, drink plenty
of water, and take a multivitamin daily.
TAKE GREAT CARE OF YOUR BODY...
most people neglect it until it gets too late.
Be PROACTIVE and ENJOY the benefits!

You might discover a new passion in life.
Maybe you will conquer your fear of heights.
You will definitely have something to remember.
Live Life Fully!

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, October 31, 2002

If you have children, take the time out just for them. Turn off the phone
the moment you awaken and unplug the television for a full day.
Explore your child's mind and spend the entire day together.
This will bring you closer to your child / children, and will also
give you the chance to teach them many things. After a while, some parents become
conditioned to turn the television on as a babysitter or a silencer.
Your child has things to tell you! But when they get distracted, as all of us do
from time to time, they forget what they want to say...maybe they want to tell you
that they love you...that you mean everything to them. Please try this at home.
You will be surprised what you don't know about your children!

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, October 24, 2002

Some situations in life are hard to deal with and accept.
It seems like there is nothing you can do to change
the uncomfortable situation you are in...or is there?
Change of perspective can do miracles.
You MUST have a dream and a vision of whatever it is that
you desire...then you can ease your mind by shifting
your perspective and looking at the same situation
in a new light. Look at your present situation as a
temporary detour and paint a picture of a brighter,
happier desired future. Remember to remind yourself that you
will reach whatever goal you desire if you work on it.
You must act out on your desires to make them a reality.
Get to work!!

Meditation is really less complex than thought out to be.
All you really have to do for a quick and refreshing meditation
is picture yourself in your own paradise...almost a fantasy world.
Relax there, forget the worries and stress of everyday life.
Visit old friends there or concentrate on absolutely nothing...
There are endless possibilities that your mind can endure, encounter, and attain.
It's all a matter of how determined you are, and how open you may be
to the possibilities...
OPEN YOUR MIND.

You say you want to quit an addiction.
Ask yourself the REASON why you need to quit it.
Is it because of your health, your kids, your family?
Whatever it is, you need to see the immediate need
and create a desire to stop the self-destructive behavior.
Once you have made that conscious decision, you must act
and create a plan to stop your addictive habit.
Help is always available. However, it is UP TO YOU

but you go with your gut feeling and follow your intuition.
Your emotions are a door to your soul...

PATIENCE...
10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2......
SLOW DOWN...I know you "can't wait"
I know that you are excited about that prize,
moment, meeting, event that is ahead of you.
You are counting down the days...hours...minutes.
Be happy that this moment will happen...
Take time to imagine how you will react to it...
what you will do...how you will feel.
Make the wait enJOYable.

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, September 12, 2002

Will there ever be the perfect time for getting in shape
and taking care of your health...doubt it. That time is now.
It's not too hard to get excited and started with exercise,
but it takes continued motivation and desire to persist
and continue until you start feeling better and get the
results you want. Help is available...especially on the Net.
If you have the DESIRE, you WILL reach your goals,
no matter what obstacles lay in your way.

Do you have that BURNING DESIRE?

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, September 5, 2002

Accept that EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON!

Life is full of ups and downs...
It is up to you to accept that and live with it.
Unfortunate events happen...obstacles come in the way,
but you can choose to focus on the goal ahead
and help yourself get stronger under the gloomy circumstances.
If there were no tests and challenges in life,
there would be no lessons to learn and no rewards.
Make the best out of things that come in your way!

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, August 29, 2002

Take care of yourself!
Sometimes you may feel that you are giving too much of youself to others,
that you are striving to make those around you happy.
Being so giving and caring is a great quality.
However, you are a person that deserves to be treated with
respect, warmth and affection too.
Put your life in perspective and see if you are getting
enough of what you need.
You have to be content with youself before you can freely
offer yourself to those in need.

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, August 22, 2002

Imagine how it would be to spend just one day sincerely caring
about everything and worrying about nothing. Just think of what you
could accomplish in such a frame of mind.

You would look at every situation with a new and empowering perspective.
You would see possibilities and opportunities instead of problems
and limitations. There would be no hopeless situations, no cause
for panic, no reason for any anxiety. You would simply have work to be
done, and you would go about doing it cheerfully, enthusiastically,
and with the highest of expectations.

Your mind would focus on the best way to move forward rather than
on the biggest excuse for staying put. You would know with confidence
that giving and creating produces infinitely more value than taking and hoarding.
Such a day would be filled with value, with joy, with accomplishment
and fulfillment. And the best thing is that such a day is yours to live
any time you choose, even this very moment.

Expand your knowledge...

What is a UFO?
A UFO is an Unidentified Flying Object.
It is "Something seen in the sky (or on the land, or exceptionally in the water,
but thought capable of flight) which the witness could not identify and thought
sufficently strange to report to either an offical or unoffical investigating body".

A UFO is the stimulus for a UFO report made by a UFO witness. UFO researchers
(often called UFOlogists) study UFO reports and witnesses. UFO researchers
cannot directly study UFOs. There are some reports in the literature of different
governments recovering craft thought to cause UFO reports, but most of these
reports are speculative. The study of UFO reports is referred to as UFOlogy.
This implies a scientific basis to the study, when in practice very little
scientific research is carried out. After careful investigation about 90%
of all UFO reports can be reasonably explained as either natural phenomena
or misidentification of normal manmade devices. Sometimes the term IFO is
used for these Identified Flying Objects. Those cases which are identified
as natural phenomena are often rare or short lived and are worthy of
study in their own right.

You lost control of your thoughts.

Your thoughts are magical. Thoughts are powerful forces of energy.
Thoughts create everything you want in life. Thoughts can even
create the things you don't want. Thoughts can only come from
your mind - and you are the only person in charge of your own mind.
So you create the thoughts that create the circumstances of
your life. Since your thoughts create your reality -
you create your reality.

Fears can sometimes take over our lives.
They then become unnecessary stressors that sometimes
manifest themselves in a physical form
(such as heartburn, headaches, upset stomach).

and try to evaluate whether they are realistic or
just ordinary avoidable worries and concerns.
That self-exploration of your fears will help
unclutter your mind and live your life with less stress.

Don't try to ignore or suppress them. They need to come out.
Remember that these are temporary feelings, so try not to

such as exercise, talking to friends and family, enjoying

Be realistic about your emotions.
Layoffs, deaths, illnesses - to name a few situations -
do cause feelings of loss, sadness and anxiety and other
difficult emotions. These are normal responses.
It doesn't help to pretend that everything is fine when it isn't.

Cultivate a sense of patience with yourself.
Don't expect to change lifelong patterns instantly.
Recognize change is a process that takes time.
Start with smaller, realistic goals (for example,
try to exercise once or twice a week rather than
every day) and compliment yourself on your progress.

New year's resolutions are a good thing.
The only downside is that people usually don't stick to them.
I find that making specific goals to be achieved within a year,
with the intention to make the new year better than the previous
year, works better not only because there are no time limits,
but such action also sets you up for making constant improvement
in your life.

Get the new year off to a wonderful start
by transforming your home and your life
with the ancient art of feng shui.

Don't try to stick to a rigid diet during the holidays.
You'll just drive yourself and everyone around you crazy.
You can still eat sensibly without depriving yourself
of the joy and pleasure of holiday food.
Remember...your body needs protein, carbohydrates, and some fat
so make sure you're getting them all from a well-balanced
holiday diet. And don't forget to keep active!

The stress response in your body begins in your brain
with how you interpret events and what you say to yourself
about them. Whether you think you can or can't manage
what comes your way, you're probably right.

Five steps to mastering a new sport skill easily:

Sometimes we wait to explore new things
when we are in a new place (trip / vacation),
but when we are in our everyday surroundings
we tend to forget to look at the things that
are slowly changing around us (such as leaves
turning orange and yellow and falling from
the sky). Take a moment in your everyday life
to be observant and look around you for things
that are beautiful and new. Appreciate the
amazing changes in nature and you will be
surprised to find out how good those
small things can make you feel.

If you want physical, mental, emotional
and spiritual health, REST and RELAXATION
are not options: they are NECESSITIES!
Schedule daily REST and RELAXATION in your life.

Become a volunteer!

There are plenty of organizations that need
volunteers. There are plenty of things you can do.
All you have to do is pick the cause and get started.
Usually there is no special talent or knowledge
needed to volunteer, so everyone qualifies!
All you need to have is a strong desire to help
people who need help and a little bit of time.
The feeling of offering unselfish help is
tremendously rewarding and exciting.
See how you can be important in a stranger's life.
VOLUNTEER!

Flu season is knocking at the door...
Keep up the exercise, drink extra liquids,
stay warm, wash your hands frequently,
keep the positive attitude,
stay away from sick people
(negative ones too),
take the multivitamins. Just in case,
get some over-the-counter cold meds handy.

"I bargained with Life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store.

For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial's hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid."

SET YOUR GOALS HIGH!

THOUGHT FOR THE MIND / BODY / SOUL

Thursday, November 1, 2001

Clarify your values and goals.
What do you want to do with your life?
What is truly important to you?
If you were lying on your deathbed,
thinking back over your life, would
you wish you had lived your life
differently? If so, start attending
to what's most meaningful to you
NOW while you have the chance.
Remember, you can achieve ANYTHING
as long as you have a burning desire
and willingness to give it all you have.

While TOO MUCH STRESS isn't good,
TOO LITTLE isn't either. In fact,
scientists at Ohio State University
in Columbus found that short periods
of stress actually rev up people's
immune systems, making them stronger
and healthier in the long run.
Hear that? So stop stressing about it!

Expect only the BEST things to happen
in your life and around you!
Wondering if "bad" things will
haunt you is not the way to live.
EXPECT the best and DO your best
in everything you do, and you will
continue getting desirable results
in all aspects of your life.
Limiting ourselves by thinking small
and negative thoughts will definitely
shorten and limit our lives.
So think BIG!

Try not to judge people by their looks.
We are all different and unique in our
own special ways.
This is a perfect time to practice not
generalizing people of different cultural
and religious background.
Not all people of same culture or religion
share the same beliefs and ideologies.
Proudly display your humanity by
focusing on staying respectful in these
difficult testing times.

People with chronic nightmares, like post-traumatic
stress sufferers, who were taught to rehearse
different story lines for bad dreams had fewer
scary sleep experiences after several months than
those who received no guidance, says a new study
in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Next time a nightmare wakes you up, don't dwell on
it - just come up with a happier version instead!

It has been 2 weeks since the tragic event in NY
and Washington, D.C. and most of us are still
struggling to get back to normalcy.
We feel fearful and angry, which are normal
feelings under these circumstances.
However, we need to slowly begin healing ourselves.
First step is to try to resume our daily routine,
and not deprive ourselves of life's pleasures
such as exercising, spending time with family
and friends, going to the park, walking your dog.
As tragic as this event is, we can view it as a
learning experience to find deeper meaning of
our existence. Life is short indeed.
Live it to its fullest.

help those who are coming up behind you.
