Most life on earth has been destroyed in The Seven Days of Fire. Earth has turned into a toxic wasteland, ever expanding by the Sea of Corruption, a fungi forest filled with giant insects. The forest’s fungi give off spores that poison the air. This toxic gas called Miasma will destroy a human’s lungs within five minutes without the proper masks.

The story revolves around the life of a young girl named Nausicaa. She is princess of a small nation called the Valley of Wind. The only thing protecting this small valley from "miasma" is the constant wind that blows from the sea. Using her mehve (a small glider) Nausicaa has mastered the wind and learned to read them. She also has a strange talent that allows her to communicate with insects. The toxic forest holds many secrets which Nausicaa belives may be the key to the survival of the human race. Nausicaa now struggles to protect the insects and her people from those who wish to destroy the Sea of Corruption.

This movie is only the first installment of the Nausicaa Manga series, it does not end with the movie. Nausicaa faces many more challenges and finishes off with a very dramatic ending. If you like the movie you should read the book.
