The Journey Begins
It had
been one week since Sparow escaped the grasps of his psycho mom and the aging
Nightmare. All has been quiet since than, but Sparow could only wonder how long
that would last.
Today
both Sparow and Ruby were in the same place they were attacked last week.
Sparow came to this spot often to think; today was not one of those days. It
was his half brother Silver who asked him to meet here today.
“What do
you think Silver wants?” Ruby questioned.
Sparow
shrugged, “If you didn’t force me to come, I wouldn’t even be here.”
“Glad to
see you came,” Silver said as he stepped out of the forest, into the clearing.
“I didn’t think you would show.”
Silver
was now dressed in a blue battle garb, very similar to his father’s battle
outfit. He was as always followed closely by the lady in blue, Sapphire.
“You have her to thank for
that,” Sparow motioned towards Ruby.
“Ruby
always did had a way of forcing men to do what she wants,” Sapphire said in a
teasing voice.
“You’re
just jealous you didn’t have that kind of luck with men,” Ruby said, in an
equal teasing manner.
“So what
do you want?” Sparow asked, ignoring the two girls.
“You’re
help,” Silver answered.
“Dream
on; why should I help you?”
“Because
we are brothers.”
“Only
because your father couldn’t keep it in his pants.”
Silver
was silent for a moment, “Then I challenge you to a duel, if I win you help
me.”
“And if
I win?”
Silver
smiled,” I won’t call you brother any more, and you never have to see me
again.”
Sparow
thought for a moment, “ok, you’re on. Just don’t blame if my sword should
accidentally slip, leaving you in the same condition as your father.”
“That
won’t happen,” Silver drew his sword. “Don’t forget I was trained by the best.”
“If he
was the best, then he wouldn’t be dead,” Sparow also drew his sword.
Both of
them charged, their swords clashing in the middle of the clearing. They both
exchanged hits, neither landing a clean blow. Sparow has to admit Silver was
good, perhaps even better than him. Sparow however has greater stamina, he
could go on the defensive, and wait for Silver to tire himself out. Once Silver
tires, he’ll be easy pickings.
Suddenly
Silver retreated; perhaps he caught on to Sparow’s plan.
“I got
to admit, you are better than I thought,” Silver sheathed his sword. “But like
they always say, ‘There’s more than one way to skin a cat.’”
“Do I
look like a cat to you?” Sparow asked as he also sheathed his sword.
Silver
once again flashed his boyish smile, “I would be pretty scared myself, if I had
to face this next attack. Twin Dragons!”
It was
the same attack that helped defeat Nightmare and Celes. The two fire dragons
roared as they circled each other, quickly charging towards Sparow.
“This
trick again?” Sparow questioned. “Well at least it’s better than that lame
fireball of your father’s, but you are still have to do better than that to
beat me. Ice-Fire!”
Sparow
was hopping to freeze both fire dragons with his ice-fire; instead the dragons
split directions, leaving the ice-fire to fly harmlessly into a tree.
“Not
bad,” Sparow said to himself as he tracked one of the fire dragons, “Ice-Fire!”
This
time the ice-fire was on target, freezing the fire dragon in mid air. The
frozen dragon fell to the ground, shattering on impact. Only one fire dragon
left.
“Now
where’s the other one?” Sparow silently questioned, as he frantically searched
the sky.
The fire
dragon found Sparow first, as it slammed into his back.
The
attack packed quite a punch, leaving Sparow wounded, hardly enough energy to
fight back. Times like this called for Sparow’s secret weapon.
Sparow
reached behind his waistband, and grasped onto his secret weapon, a small
dagger. With a quick flick of his wrist, Sparow sent the dagger flying towards
Silver.
The
dagger passed within inches centimeters of Silver face, close enough to leave a
small cut on Silver’s cheek. A couple inches to the right, and a little up
would have spelled instant death fro Silver; thankfully Sparow wasn’t in a
killing mood today, he only wanted Silver stunned.
As
Silver slowly recovered from the shock of almost dying, Sparow once again drew
his sword, and charged, hoping to deliver the crippling blow.
“Blue
Flare!”
A bright
blue light blinded Sparow.
As
Sparow’s vision slowly cleared, he spotted Silver’s sword inches from his neck.
“Look
like I win.”
“That’s
cheating,” Sparow protested.
“I don’t
recall setting any rules for this duel,” Silver pressed his sword closer to
Sparow’s neck.
“Fine,
you win; just get that thing out of my face.”
Silver
did as requested and sheathed his sword.
“What
did you need my help with?” Sparow questioned.
“I want
you to sneak me into The Web.”
“The
Web?” Sparow had to think a moment before it clicked. “That’s Spider’s crime
organization. Let me guess you want to get some revenge on him for killing your
old man?”
“I’m not
you, I’m not a killer. I just want Spider jailed for the crimes he has
committed.”
“That
kind of attitude will get you killed.”
“If it
happens, it happens.”
Silver
certainly changed a lot in the past week. Last week Silver was a depressed
little kid, who couldn’t get over his father’s death. Today he was a happy go
lucky kid, with no cares in the world; that kind of attitude sickened Sparow.
“I
believe this is yours,” Sapphire said as she walked up to Sparow and handed him
his dagger.
Sparow
took his dagger,”… Thank you”
“Come on
lets go,” Silver was already heading of in front of the group.
“Whatever
you say boss,” Sparow’s voice was dripping with sarcasm.
Sparow
slowly followed Silver.
“Think
the two of them will be able to get along?” Ruby asked as she joined her sister
in the clearing.
“I think
they will get along just as good as we do,” Sapphire answered.
“That’s
what I’m afraid of,” Ruby said softly.
“Very
funny. Come on let’s catch up to the boys,” Sapphire rushed after Silver and
Sparow.
Ruby
followed.
Sill
Sparow be able to sneak them into The Web? Perhaps the more important question
is, can the two of them get along without killing each other before than?
