Search For A Cure

“Is there anything you can do for him?” Silver nervously asked.

It was twenty-four hours removed from the failed raid on The Web. Sparow stood against the wall in the small, bland room. Ruby wasn’t far away; she was also leaning against the wall. In the center of the room was a long medical table where Forgotten One lied. Around him stood three people, two of them being Silver and Sapphire, both had concern looks on there face.

“I’m afraid not; my magic might be able to buy him a few extra hours, but without a cure he’s doomed,” that was White Phantom.

White Phantom had long white hair and a long white beard to match. His face was scared with a long scare running from the top of his left eyebrow, all the way down to his chin. He wore white armor with a flowing white cape.

“We got to do something, he only has forty eight hours left,” Silver pleaded.

A loud chime sounded, signaling the begin of a new hour.

“Make that forty seven,” Sparow’s own voice was lacking any emotion.

“Shut up!” Silver snapped, very uncharacteristic of him. “Where were you anyways when this happened?”

“Busy with Spiders two goons,” Sparow shrugged. “After I beat some sense into them two, they informed me Spider wasn’t even there.”

“I might know someone who can help,” Ruby stepped forward.

“No! We can’t ask her, anyone but her,” Sapphire tried to plead with her sister.

“We don’t have a choice,” Ruby lowered her voice, as if regretting her next words. “Emerald is the only one smart enough to figure out a cure.”

Emerald was the sister of Ruby and Sapphire the three of them were triplets but since birth none of them have ever gotten along. It was only recently Ruby and Sapphire started talking. Emerald was the coldest of the three sisters and wanted nothing to do with her other sisters. Sparow could sympathize with her.

“To get to Emerald, we have to sneak into F-W-L,” Silver said

F.W.L was short for future world leader, a crime organization New Samurai ran. At one point of his life Sparow was number two in charge there. It was New Samurai’s harsh treatment, which easily rivaled his mother’s treatment, that lead Sparow to find work elsewhere.

“How do you plan on getting into F-W-L?” White Phantom asked.

            All eyes fell on Sparow.

“Why me?” Sparow questioned the staring eyes.

“You got us into The Web with ease; F-W-L should be no problem for you,” silver answered.

“That doesn’t answer my question. I don’t care if Forgotten One lives or dies, so why should I stick my neck out for him?”

“How can you say that?” White Phantom questioned. “He’s your uncle.

Sparow stared coldly at White Phantom, “You obviously don’t know me very well.”

“I heard Forgotten One got paid well,” Silver interrupted. “I’m sure he’ll pay you well if you save his life.”

“You think I care about money?”
            Everyone was silent.

“I make you a deal,” Sparow broke the silence. “If I get us into F-W-l then New Samurai is mine.”

“I can’t allow you to kill him,” Silver protested.

“New Samurai is mine, or I’m not helping.”

            “Fine you win… this time.”

“It won’t be the last time.”

Twelve hours later the four of them, Sparow, Silver, Sapphire, and Ruby, were standing inside what remained of F.W.L, White Phantom stayed behind to look after Forgotten One. Sparow heard things were going bad around here, but he didn’t expect it to be this bad. F.W.L used to be the biggest crime organization alive, but after Silver Samurai’s death, things went downhill. No one wanted to follow a man who spent years trying to kill the “great hero” when Spider killed him, his first try.

Today the large entrance room that used to be bustling with activity was empty. The floor was missing leaving, causing them to walk on dirt. The walls were bare except for a lone clock, which surprisingly still worked. In the distance was a staircase, at least what remained of a staircase, leading up to a second floor.

“Thirty five hours,” Sparow looked up at the clock.

“I said shut up!” Silver snapped again.

Sparow stayed stone face, but inside he was busting up with laughter. It was hilarious to Sparow how Silver cared so much about a man he hated two days ago.

“Sis and I will go check up top,” Sapphire said. “You two check down here.”

“Why do I have to go with him?” Sparow questioned.

“Would you rather go with me?” Ruby smiled.

            “Is that a trick question?”

Ruby’s smile grew bigger, “I think you two need some bonding time.”

Before Sparow could offer further objection, Sapphire gently lifted both girls up to the second floor with the aid of her wind magic.

“Let’s check in there,” Silver pointed to a door that was falling off its hitches.

Saying nothing, Sparow followed Silver to the door in question. Silver opened the door, only to have it fall off its hitches in his hands.

“I never realized my own strength,” Silver laughed.

            Sparow stared at Silver.

Realizing the bad joke, Silver stopped laughing and stepped into the next room.

            Sparow followed.

The next “room” was in worse condition then the previous room. The only wall left standing was the one the door used to belong to. The rest of the walls were stripped, leaving only the pillars up to support the floor above. Beyond the pillars was desert as far as the eye could see.

“What’s that?” Silver pointed towards the setting sun in the horizon.

Sparow had to squint to see the figure off in the distance Silver was pointing to. Sparow opened his mouth to answer, only to get interrupted by the ground shifting under his feet.

            “Earthquake!” Silver yelled.

Another large rumbling could be heard; this one belonged to the pillars, which were quickly falling. Now the floor above them, was collapsing on top of them!

Who was that figure in the distance? How will the two brothers survive this mess? Will they survive it?
