Guardettes of Orange County

The Guardettes Dance & Drill Team originated in 1960 as a twelve-member drill team that represented Garden Grove in local parades. Forty years later, the Guardette program continues to dance on with over 80 participants that perform and/or compete all over Southern California and nationwide.
There are three segments of the Guardettes. Performance, Junior and Senior Competition groups are open to all youth in grades 1 – 12. Membership for the Performance Team, which is divided into three groups, is by registration and provides an entry level to the program for youth with little or no dance experience. Membership requirements for the Junior and Senior Competition Teams are by audition only for youth at the intermediate and advanced levels. Within the Competition Team, members are selected by audition for the "specialty teams", providing various levels of difficulty, challenging the more experienced dancers.
Over the forty year history, the success of this affordable program has been made possible by dedicated staff and administrative support from the City of Garden Grove. In August of 2000, with the help of the City of Garden Grove, the Guardettes became a totally independent Non-Profit Youth Organization. In addition to dance and drill technique, the program instills values such as discipline, accepting responsibility, the setting and achieving of goals, and the importance of belonging to and working as a team. We are proud to say that these values and traditions are the Guardettes!
