Change Will Come
I am tired of school. I think that many of us are; students and teachers alike. I don't like going as much as I used to. I go so I can see friends and talk to those teachers that have really made a difference in my life. We want change...well I want change now, but if it will come gradually I think I can handle that as well. As many have asked before, "What do you want to change?"
It may seems simple, but it is far from that. I may list a few things that I want to change:
1.) Let school be a resource not a requirement. In this I mean let what we learn be more liberal. Don't expect those who are not interested english to take if all four years of high school when they can spend that time studying what interests them. If they know enough to write and read and understand let them out.
2.) (This one isn't neccisary but I will metnion it anyhow) Let us learn outdoors when we can. People are killing the planet and I'd like to see the blue sky as long as it is still blue.
3.) Teach us the truth. When I read about history I don't want the glorified version where everyone is a hero. I want to know the truth. What is the truth? Most of the time I couldn't tell you I have been taught about the "heroes" so long I have yet to learn who did what.
4.) Don't judge me by a number on a peice of paper. I don't know how many teachers say things about their studednt like "I know their smart, but they just don't make the grade" We as humans don't make grades; we make decisions and learn to understand. We take actions that prove who we are. Not everyone should have to prove how much they know by taking a test of writing an essay. -It would be okay if we we're taught what was on the standardized tests and essays we are expected to write, but we aren't. We need more time to learn or we need more effective teaching.
Not more effective teachers, more effective teaching. The teachers are not the problems its that they are required to teach us this and that and have little time to associate with students to find out what we WANT to learn about.
We as studednt have refused to fight for our right to learn. If we do we may risk the future of college. We may scar a perfect record. Well seeing how I am not even close to perfect I assume my position to fight for my right to learn. I assume my position to fight for all of those younger and older than me and their right to learn. I assume my position to fight for your right to learn, whoever you are. To me it doesn't matter we are all learning all of the time, but if i must be forced to school I will fight for the education I deserve, that we all deserve. How do you expect anyone to learn when we are all just being programmed to function in society? So we can be little money makers for the economy? We can't. Not as much as we'd like.
I love learning. I long to learn. Since most of my education years are behind me as I am a senior in highschool I will fight for what I didn't get. Don't get me wrong I learned to do basic math spell some words, some basic science, I learned to play clarinet, I learned to draw and paint. But where is my philosophy class....in college. Where is my Egyptology class....in college. Why should we wait? Why can't I learn now. I have to choose a major to decide what I want to do with the rest of my life, and I haven't even gotten a test drive. Im sorry, I hate to use such language in an essay type writting, but thats crap! What nonesense. Would you buy a car without drving it.....no, unless you're one of those who buys cars online. But I don't want to choose my life without a test either. I want to put my toes in and see how the water is.
Well you don't have the funding you say...You do and how you live for the children because they are the future. Well if you live for us, where are our classes and why are the ones we have so large? Why does all of the money get stuck at the top as it does in every business. Yeah, education is a business. They get money for every day we sit in our seats and twiddle our thumbs. Well if you want us in those seats much longer, something must change. The ideas I listed above are just off the top of my head. If you want REAL ideas get us all together, ask us. We aren't afraid to answer, really we aren't. I think you are afraid to ask. We really aren't as dumb as you think we are. Really I am not joking....sit all of us together, ask us what we want, right now we are more than willing to tell you. I am. I feel the time has come, we are ready for a revolution.

We are the future, and the future will be what we make it...and we are going to make it, as long as you make it with us.
