Welcome to the Church of Ireland (Traditional Rite).

Who are we?

The Church of Ireland (Traditional Rite) is the continuing Anglican Church in the Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland. At present we have congregations in Londonderry; Clogher, Co. Tyrone; Newtownards, Co. Down; Stradbally, Co. Leix, and there is an "overseas" congregation in Southeast Cornwall.

The Church of Ireland (Traditional Rite) was founded in 1991 as a traditional Anglican alternative to the Church of Ireland, which has been undergoing radical change for the last twenty years. The most obvious manifestation of this change has been replacement its traditional liturgy with the 2004 Book of Common Prayer. However, there has been an increasing tendancy towards revisionism in both theology and morality, as seen in the 2004 controversy in the Diocese of Dublin over "Gay Unions." The decision to form the Church of Ireland (Traditional Rite) was made following the decision of the General Synod of the Church of Ireland to allow the ordination of women to the priesthood and the episcopate. This move was made not because the Church believes women to be inferior to men. Holy Scripture specifically says they are not, but because the Church of Ireland broke with clear Scriptural precedent in allowing this change to its constitution.

The Church of Ireland (Traditional Rite) is part of the worldwide Traditional Anglican Communion which has member churches in Great Britain, Canada, the United States of America, Mexico, Central and South America, Zambia, South Africa, Japan, Australia, the Torres Strait, New Zealand, India, and Pakistan.
