Roma's Biography |
Born and raised in Derry City, Northern Ireland,
Roma Downey currently plays "Monica" in the hit television series Touched
by an Angel which debuted in 1994. She is also known for her amazing
portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy in the mini-series A Woman Named
Jackie.
Roma is the youngest of six children and attended a Catholic Convent School and Brighton Art College in England, UK, where she studied painting and earned her bachelor's degree. She then attended the London Drama Studio. There she starred in in productions of the plays of Shakespeare, Shaw, and Chekhov. Later, she toured the US with Dublin's famous Abbey Players in a production of "The Playboy of the Western World" and was nominated for the Helen Hayes Best Actress Award in 1991. She also appeared in the production of "The Circle" on Broadway and some Off Broadway plays including "Love's Labour's Lost." She has also starred in many films, such as A Test of Love and Monday After the Miracle. On June 3, 1996, Roma gave birth to her daughter, Reilly Marie. |
