Thursday 18 January 2024: Skiing has begun - very late due to the exceptionally mild weather. The trails have been groomed, and it is OK for skate and classical skiing, but not brilliant. We could use another 20 cm of snow.

There is a serious cloud on the horizon: there are over 7000 ash trees on the property that are infested with ash borer, and they have to be taken down by SVCA contractors while the ground is frozen, before they start falling on skiers. So sometime, at short notice -the whole property will be closed (for safety reasons).

STONEY ISLAND HAS THE ONLY SKI TRAILS IN SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY GROOMED FOR SKATE AND CLASSICAL SKIING. IN ADDITION THERE ARE 5 KM OF SNOWSHOE TRAILS.

REMEMBER - if you don't have ski equipment and wish to try the sport -- we have many sets of older equipment - most sizes - you can borrow for free from the club hut. Please return the equipment neatly for others to use.

The new Canada 150 ski trail is complete. A big thanks to the many Club members who have helped with this heavy work. In total, over 1000 hours of volunteer work has been done to re-establish this trail which had grown over during the past 20 years. Built to mark Canada's 150 celebration, it was officially opened by Ontario's Lieutenant Governor. The trail is a flat 1 kilometer loop designed for all trail users, but especially skiers - young and old - who wish to avoid hills.

It was great to welcome 25 students from Huron Heights School for an afternoon skiing on 6th March. When the pandemic is over, we look forward to welcoming school groups again.

Founded in December 1981 and incorporated as a Club in 1991, Kincardine Cross Country Ski Club provides enjoyable skiing and snowshoeing to residents of the area. We are literally a 5 minute drive from Kincardine. We maintain the trails at the Stoney Island property (owned by Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority) on a voluntary basis - contributing 300 to 400 volunteer hours most years.

And our trail fees and annual membership are the lowest in Ontario. Trail fees for one day are: individual $3 - a family $5. Annual Club Membership: individual $30 – a family $50. We work on an honour system: please put your payment in the locked metal box at the trail head. For annual membership, contact the treasurer, Karel Mika (see contact page). Application forms are at the trail head. At some of the high-end cross-country ski facilities you pay as much for a one day pass at weekends as our annual fee! Parking at Stoney Island is free.

We have collected a number of skis, poles and ski-boots which are kept in the Club hut which may be borrowed free-of-charge if you don’t yet have your own equipment (but please return them neatly). Donations of ski boots are always welcome (we have lots of skis and poles).
