A total of 22 chessplayers participated in the Liberty May Tournament, held on 13 May 2000 at Liberty High School in Colorado Springs. It was a G/40 event with four USCF rated sections and one nonrated section. With one exception, the tournament employed a quadrangular ("quad") format, i.e., round robins were contested within groups of four similarly rated players. Because the number of participants was not divisible by four, the lowest USCF rated section contained six players, and it proceeded as a three round Swiss. (See crosstables below.)

Larry Wutt organized the tournament on behalf of the Liberty High School Chess Club and Southern Colorado Chess. The directors were Ken Schwartz and Roy Heath.

The following players won prizes.

Rated Quad 1: Randy Canney, Michael Munafo (tied at 2.5 points; $8 each)

Rated Quad 2: Roy Heath, Gerard Sunderland (tied at 2.0 points; $8 each)

Rated Quad 3: Evgueni Ostashev (2.5 points; $15)

Rated Swiss 4: Blake Brady, Allan Ufer (tied at 2.5 points; $10 each)

Nonrated Quad: Seth Allen (3.0 points; $15)
