Transgressions
Michael David Coffey

Softly whispering your
name, I transgress
in my mind's wanderings
Back through our story
To the beginnings
Before birth
In our embryonic dreams

And a leaf falls on
my diary
Laying there in homage
to perpetuity
The loving sun caressing
my back
Penetrating warmth
deep to my heart's sigh

Softly whispering your
name, I ponder
how heaven's kiss
came in raindrops
Cleansing my soul
and enjoining us
Then why, I ask --
this separation
A test?
Of what? Our agony
in love denied!
And the leaf fell
to the floor

Softly whispering
'love, love'
A sigh to the winds
I peered into the
warm haze
And another leaf fell
close by my foot
in an autumn blessing
And it seemed suddenly
I was in a dream
Through seasons
wandering with you
Emerging finally
in the burst of Spring
