NARROW GAUGE
Some
forty years before, there was rich web of the narrow
gauge railroads in Yugoslavia, with numerous locomotives
run on it. While few of them are still at service in
several mines, the majority remained only at photographs
or WWW sites. Nice text and photographs can be found at David Sallery's Web Site, while some more facts about 760 mm gauge railways at SE Europe can be located at Club 760, Austrian Steam Base or Helge Ralf Harling's Web Site. Photographs on this page are scanned from the books: JŽ NARROW GAUGE RAILWAYS written by Z. Bundalo, YUGOSLAVIAN STEAM LOCOMOTIVES written by T. Brate, and DIE SCHMALSPURIGEN STAATSBAHNLINIEN IN JUGOSLAWIEN written by Alfred Horn. Most of the former Yugoslav trains used 760 mm gauge. Consequently majority of railroad network is of that size, while some places was conected with some other gauge. There was following gauges: 600 mm, 750 mm, 760 mm, 1000 mm, 1435 mm Important Notices: At Yugoslav railways wheel arrangement actually indicates number of axes, not wheels. For example, Pacific type with 4-6-2 wheel arrangement should be designated as 2-C-1. Locomotives built prior to 01.01.1909. particularly has three digit class number, while locomotives designated with two digit class number was built after 01.01.1909. e.g. 193-001 was built in 1902, while 84-006 was built in 1915. |
