Juror Statement:

For the past 30 years the Northern Colorado Weavers Guild has sponsored a juried exhibition of textiles, including all fiber media: spinning, weaving, dyeing, basketry, sculpture, felting, quilting, papermaking, knitting, beading, crocheting, and embroidery. The importance of this endeavor should not be discounted, for through the opportunity provided by juried shows such as this, artists and craft persons can further develop and grow in their art. In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to the Northern Colorado Weavers Guild for the valuable outreach Fiber Celebration provides. For by showing fiber art to the general public, knowledge and appreciation of these time-honored crafts is gained.

My task as juror for Fiber Celebration 2003 was to judge the submissions for aesthetics, originality, craftsmanship, and suitability of technique and materials. Pieces could be entered in one of four categories: functional, non-functional two dimensional, non-functional three dimensional, and wearable garments. I thank all entrants for submitting work. Whether their work found its way into this exhibit or not, it is my hope that perhaps by entering Fiber Celebration 2003 they have worked a little harder, strived for perfection, reached new heights. This, then, is the reason for entering and the importance of hosting juried shows. It has been my honor to have participated in this process.
