WELCOMEPearl Valley Farm is located just outside of Cortez, in the SW corner of CO, with the mountains on one side and high desert on the other. We have been raising dairy goats since 1988 when we purchased our first grade animal for the family milk supply. We maintain a relatively small and carefully culled herd of AMERICAN & FRENCH ALPINES, with a focus on high milk production, strong conformation and show ability. All of my original stock comes from the Desert-Magnolia Herd owned by Bev Hunley in Tucson, AZ, who is a most treasured friend of mine and who has taught me most of what I know about goats! (Updated 12/06) We are on official DHIA Test, we Linear Appraise with ADGA annually, and we show at as many shows as we can get to in our area. We currently have 5 Sr. Does who LA 93 EEEE (Lilac, Mandolay, Aroura, Society, Lovely)!! All of these does are still show active and in great shape. Three of them have received the score at age 5 or older, so it is permanent. Several of them have received 93 Scores from more than 1 appraiser. Lyris is also looking at possibly going TOP 10 for milk production this year (we hope!) with her projected finish of 3,650# in 305 days. !! (Updated 12/06) The show ring continues to go well for us. In 2006 we attended 10 Sr. doe shows taking GCH in 9 of those rings and BDIS in many of them. Does that got their permanent GCH were KITTY, MALAY AND LYRIS! Some of our older permanent does do not get out as much as we usually only show them in Champion Challenge classes and just pick 1 to take ..so they have to share showing time. One hi-light for us this year was when LILAC GOT HER 25TH BDIS WIN!! These are all MILKING WINS. We gave her the rest of the year off Society and Aroura continue to be very competitive challengers too. Mandoaly really does not like to show that well, so has not gotten as much action, although she still looks fantastic. Upcoming yearlings Rapunzel and Nivasha both went RGCH in a competitive Tucson, AZ show. We show in Colorado, Azrizona, New Mexico, TX and sometimes UT. On the HEALTH SIDE OF THINGS. We are a TESTED CAE FREE HERD. Until 2000 we raised all kids on pasturized milk and heat treated colostrum (pasturizing the previous 8 years). We purchased all our original animals from a CAE free herd and have never had it in our herd. We test all milking does and bucks every year. We vaccinate (CDT) and worm regularly. We feed Alfalfa hay, Alfalfa pellets and grain year round. Goats also graze at will on lush CO irrigated pasture. |
