I love Trail-riding! Nowhere else can you find the scenery and wildlife that we have encountered over the many miles we have covered. We have seen bear, grizzlies too! Mountain lions Elk Deer Bighorn sheep Moose Sometiimes a little too close! Check out the Photos from places we’ve been. |
RMR was our original ranch
name when we lived in Montana. R “mini” Ranch described our mini 8.3 acre
ranch and our “mini” stud “Little Thunder.” Today we reside in North Idaho just a few
miles from Priest Lake and Priest River ID. We still have a mini horse “Star”
and have downsized on acreage and no longer board outside horses. For many years I showed in
Western Pleasure and English Pleasure earning High Point Rider of the Year
three consecutive years in both categories in the area I showed. I showed
in the Trail class, with my Quarter horse, “Rebel Lynn Lani” who loved the
trail class and moved through it effortlessly. The announcer at one show laughed over the
loudspeaker when she announced how my husband beat me riding Lani in the
trail class while I came in third on the arabian I was riding that day. (My
son came in second on his pony). I have also shown in Reining
earning several awards and trophies. I have tested to Dressage level 2 and
shown in numerous events such as English Pleasure, English Equitation,
Dressage Suitability and more. I have given lessons since the
early ‘90’s and trained several youngsters in the years since. The riders
I’ve given lessons to and horses I have trained have since gone on to earn
awards in their worlds also. My true love is Trail-Riding and I
can’t say enough how much an excellent trail horse is worth. Over the years I
have stressed how necessary trail riding is for the horse’s emotional,
mental, and physical needs. I guess someone must have heard me and so back in
’02, I was interviewed by Horse Illustrated
for an article called “Outward Bound” giving the reasons for trail-riding and
how to prepare a horse for trail-riding. SInce moving to Idaho, I have
had the pleasure of working with Mountain Horse Adventures
as a licensed trail guide. Book a ride with MHA and see the scenery from the
top of Schweitzer Mountain Resort. As a guide I have met people from all over
the world who share our love of horses. Some are complete beginners; some
have never seen or touched a horse, let alone ride one before coming to the
resort. My new love is the Competitive Trail Challenges. The challenges are a great
way to compete outside the confines of an arena and in my opinion really show
the true worth of a trail horse. My “show” horses are first and foremost good
“trail-horses”. I do have a small obstacle course set-up at my home to school
my horse on but nothing compares to just getting out and riding the real
trails in the mountains of Montana and Idaho. My paint horse “Daisy” just competed in
her first real trail challenge at the Western Pleasure Guest Ranch and came
in 6th place in the Open division. Daisy is a 8 year old paint but was started at the age of 5. She
then had a baby so was off again for almost 2 years. I picked her up just a
year ago and re-started her training. So what am I doing today? Trail-riding!!! Ok and some lessons, clinics and
training. You are welcome to come to me for lessons and
training on my “mini” ranch and if needed I will come to you also (mileage
included). Get a group of friends together for a discounted
lesson/clinic. Look me up on Facebook too!! Joanne Richey |
