Yahoo! doesn't care about it's users
Did Yahoo delete your paid e-mail account? Did they mess with your Geocities page? Did your Yahoo! group mysteriously disappear? Did Yahoo! reject your 360 photos?
Have you lost your Yahoo! ID for reasons unknown to you?
Search web with the keywoards Yahoo and deactivated, and you'll soon notice there is something shady about Yahoo!.
Did you know Yahoo! is fully entitled to cancel your account without any kind of warning? Some people don't know this. Read their Terms of Service.
Quotes from the agreement you have said "Yes" to:
"Yahoo! reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the Service (or any part thereof) with or without notice. You agree that Yahoo! shall not be liable to you or to any third party for any modification, suspension or discontinuance of the Service..."
"... You agree that Yahoo! may, under certain circumstances and without prior notice, immediately terminate your Yahoo! account, any associated email address, and access to the Service."
Owner of a deactivated ID will lose access to their account. No matter how you want to remove something, like your profile, there is no way, because you don't have the ID anymore. It can also mean deletion of your content, such as your Yahoo! photos, everything on Flickr, movies, notes, profiles, music, e-mail... True fun to lose it all, especially if you're a user of many years. Good luck getting anything back.
Let's pretend Yahoo! only deactivates your account for a reason. When you are greeted by the deactivation screen, it gives you a few possible causes for the loss of your account.
- You didn't log in often enough.
- You violated Terms of Service.
- You requested for your account to be canceled.
In most cases, you can't figure out what you did wrong. Yahoo also refuses to tell you the reason. You know why? Because they had no reason to delete your account. You did nothing wrong.
(There is the small possibility of your ID being hijacked and used for spamming etc. If Yahoo! cared about you, they would check the IP of attacker and easily see it's not you. But they don't care, and don't even give you a chance to explain.)
So why would Yahoo! deactivate an ID that hasn't been abused?
- Someone at Yahoo! wants your ID. (Yahoo! has been online for years, so "all the good names are taken".)
- Someone at Yahoo! wants to steal your information. (Easy! They have the access to all your user information, and after deactivation they also completely control your e-mail address.)
- You critized Yahoo! and they want to shut you up.
Oh, did I mention deactivation means you cannot register the name again? Yes, the ID just hangs there for an unknown period of time. Got e-mail addresses associated with your deacticated account? Tough shit, because you might get spam from Yahoo! groups and there is no way to stop it from coming... because Yahoo! controls your account. Neat, isn't it?
Did you know you can get deactivated if someone whines about your account? This is true! Check out this part of Yahoo Terms of Service:
"You agree to not use the Service to:
upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable..."
Ever linked to a site one of Yahoo!s million users might object to? You're screwed.
Think you're safe? Think again. Yahoo can and will do it to you sooner or later.

reason for it. I could not find any way to contact them..."

"... almost as if the Gestapo had decided to shut me down!"
