OK, a
little bit of background on this poem: I was in a workshop last year in which
we were to create religious poetry. We had to chose one biblical person and
channel them. I chose Rachel, of the Jacob-Rachel-Leah Trilogy. AS the story
goes Jacob and Rachel wanted to get married, but they couldn’t because Leah was
the older sister, so she had to get married first. Rachel and Leah’s father
tricked Jacob into marrying Leah first, and then he married Rachel Later.
Seven
years gone
Seven years of waiting
Seven years of competing
With the sister;
She always was our father’s favorite.
I remember when I still wanted you
Before you were tainted
By Daddy’s little darling
I wish you all the best
In your union.
May she get fat and ugly,
May you lose all of your hair.
So what if she got you first?
I never really liked you anyway.
