38 "Mercenary" Season Premiere!: An injured Hercules is stranded on a desert island with a convicted murderer. To make matters worse, there's deadly creatures in front of them and pirates behind them! Wotta revoltin' development...
39 "Doomsday": Daedalus (Derek Payne), grieving for his son, Icarus (Ryan Lowell), is forced to make weapons for evil King Nikolos (Frankie Stevens). Special guest star Paul Norell as Falafel. Also featuring the invention of "Silly Nutty" ("Silly Putty"), which proves to be the king's undoing.
40 "Love Takes A Holiday" (a.k.a. "Beauty and the Beast"): Aphrodite (Alexandra Tydings) causes trouble once again.
Aphrodite is fed up with being the Goddess of Love, so she quits. Naturally, people all over Greece are affected, as women do not feel love anymore. It's up to Iolaus to set things right. Meanwhile, he has more problems with Hephaestus, as the God of Fire prepares to lift a curse on a village after fifty years. The village is the one Iolaus' father was born in, but he escaped the curse because he was outside the village at the time. However, Iolaus' grandmother did not escape the curse, and she may be forced to marry Hephaestus in order to save her village.
41 "Mummy Dearest": Salmoneus has an idea to make money with a "House of Horrors". However, one of his featured attractions is the mummy of an Egyptian Pharoh (Mark Newnham), which is eagerly sought after by both the spoiled Princess Anuket (Galyn Gorg) and the ambitious usurper Sokar (John Watson). Hercules is caught in the middle, and it doesn't help matters when the mummy comes to life...
NOTES: Special guest star Robert Trebor as Salmoneus...A good, old- fashioned "creature feature", originally broadcast just in time for Halloween.
42 "Not Fade Away": Hera creates a new, more vicious Enforcer (SEE: "The Enforcer", HTLJ #26) out of fire, and it kills Iolaus. However, Hercules convinces Hades (Erik Thomson) to allow Iolaus to return to life--as long as Herc beats the new Enforcer by sundown. Hades ressurrects the Enforcer Mark One to help Herc and generally get it out from underfoot. NOTES: Special guest stars Karen Sheperd as the original Enforcer and Cynthia Rothrock as the Enforcer Mark Two.
43 "Monster Child In the Promised Land": Echidna and Typhon are celebrating the birth of their newest child, and they want Hercules and Iolaus to be there. Unfortunately, Hera wants the kid to fight for her, and will stop at nothing to accomplish that goal.
NOTES: Special guest stars Glenn Shadix as Typhon and Bridget Hoffman as Echidna.
44 "The Green-Eyed Monster": Aphrodite is jealous of Psyche, a stunningly beautiful mortal woman. Cupid falls in love with Psyche, and eventually marries her, over Aphrodites' objections.
NOTES: Special guest star Alexandra Tydings as Aphrodite. Psyche is given immortality and moves in with Cupid (Karl Urban) on Mount Olympus...Whenever Cupid feels the pain of unrequited love for a mortal, he becomes a green-eyed monster. It has now happened twice; if it happens a third time, he'll be stuck forever in monster form.
45 "Prince Hercules": Hercules suffers amnesia, and is manipulated into thinking that he is a prince. Iolaus must somehow restore his friends' memory, or watch him be enslaved by Hera for all eternity.
46 "A Star To Guide Them": HTLJ's HTLJ's first Fairly Obvious Reference to Judeo-Christian Beliefs/History. Iolaus has strange dreams, which compel him and Hercules to journey north toward an uncertain destination. Along the way, they encounters Trinculos (Jon Brazier) and Uris (Brent Barrett) who have had the same dreams and compulsion. Uris' wife, Loralei (Kirstie O'Sullivan) is pregnant, and they are fleeing to what they hope will be safety.
Meanwhile, King Polonius (Edward Newborn) and Queen Maliphone (Denise O'Connell) are all worked up about a prophecy that says a recently- or about to- be-born baby boy will become the next King, and Maliphone (who is pregnant) wants to make sure that it's her kid who takes the throne (nothing like putting pressure on your kids early in life, huh, Your Majesty?). So, all the kids who fit into this category are rounded up under the pretext of a census (which no one believes). The queen gets some help from Hera, who sends six supernatural warriors to kill Hercules.
Well, the baddies and Herc eventually clash in a big-ass battle, which Hercules wins (natch!). The Queen is thrown in jail, but insists that her unborn son is the rightful heir to the throne. Unfortunately for her, since Polonius was killed in the battle, the next King will be elected by the people.
Finally, the Fairly Obvious Reference to Judeo-Christian Beliefs/History; Hercules and Co. see a bright star in the sky, and follow it to a small house with a baby inside. Three men go into the house while Herc stands by and watches. Fade out.
47 "The Lady and the Dragon": A young dragon starts killing warriors and destroying villages at the same time a warlord returns from exile seeking revenge on his enemies. Adamis (Alexander Gandar) is manipulating the young dragon named Braxis into doing his bidding. He is plotting to take over the kingdom of Laurentia, with the help of Cynea (Catherine Bell), who tricks Hercules and Iolaus into trying to kill the dragon, and thereby getting themselves killed in the process. However, Herc and Iolaus manage to turn the tables on them.
48 "Long Live the King": Iolaus joins his look-alike cousin, King Orestes (SEE: "King For a Day", HTLJ #32), on a dangerous diplomatic mission to ask a power-hungry ruler to support a new League of Kingdoms. But when Orestes is murdered, Iolaus must take his place in order to find the murderer and save the kingdom.
NOTES: Special guest star Lisa Ann Hadley as Queen Niobe (Orestes' wife).
49 "Surprise!": Callisto, aided by Hera, busts out of Tartarus (SEE: "Intimate Stranger", XWP #31) for one day. She poisons Herc's family and friends with xanthalion phenem as they are preparing a surprise party for his birthday. Callisto forces Hercules to help her find the Tree of Life which grows golden apples--the only thing that can save Herc's loved ones (one bite cures any illness or injury; a whole one makes you immortal).
NOTES: Special guest stars Hudson Leick as Callisto, Liddy Holloway as Alcmene, Jeffrey Thomas as Jason, Kevin Smith as Iphicles, and Paul Norell as Falafel. Callisto eats a golden apple, becoming immortal. However, Herc leaves her trapped in the cave where the tree grew (Callisto burned it down and got a scar across her face for her trouble). But she'll get out eventually ("A Necessary Evil", XWP #38)...
50 "Encounter": Serena (Samantha Jenkins), the last of the Golden Hinds (all the others were destroyed by Zeus) is hiding out in a forest, protected--and manipulated--by Ares, God of War (Kevin Smith). Her blood is the only thing that can kill a god. Ares is hesitant to use it against the other Olympians because he fears the wrath of the other gods. However, Are's nephew Strife (Joel Tobeck) decides to use evil Prince Nestor (Steve Hall) as his pawn in order to kill Hercules. Nestor fails, and Hercules and Serena get romantically involved. Watching from a distance, Ares and Strife say that their plan is working out just perfectly.
51 "When A Man Loves A Woman": Hercules woos and wins Serena, the last of the Golden Hinds. However, in order to marry and have children, they must each give up their godly heritage and become ordinary mortals. They do so, and are promptly married, with Iolaus in attendance. However, the deal they struck wasn't all that good, as they soon see... NOTES: Special guest stars Kevin Smith as Ares, Joel Tobeck as Strife, and Samantha Jenkins as Serena.
52 "Judgement Day": Strife and Ares conspire to destroy Hercules. First, Herc is kept out cold by a violent dream, while Strife kills Serena and frames Herc for the murder. Xena and Gabrielle must come to the aid of their friends before Hercules is killed.
Herc & co. manage to finger the guilty duo, and Zeus (Peter Vere-Jones) restores Hercules' godhood in time for Herc to beat up on Ares and Strife. Afterwards, Hercules demands that Serena be brought back to life, even offering to give up his godhood for her (again!). Zeus refuses, and then asks Herc to thank him (for saving his life, I guess). Herc tells his dad thanks (for nothing).
NOTES: NOT related to "Terminator 2"...Special guest stars Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor as Xena and Gabrielle. Also starring Kevin Smith as Ares and Joel Tobeck as Strife.
53 "The Lost City": Iolaus and Moira (Fona Mogridge), a nosy female reporter, team up when the search for his missing cousin, Regina (Amber Sainsbury) leads them to a dangerous cult. Special guest star Robert Trebor as Salmoneus.
54 "Les Contemptibles": Set during the French Revolution, three men-- bearing a curious resemblence to Hercules, Iolaus and Salmoneus--are manipulated into aiding the "Chartruese Fox" (SEE: "The Scarlet Pimpernel").
Robert (Kevin Sorbo) and Jean-Pierre (Michael Hurst) are con men, in league with Francois Demarigny to defraud Lady Marie De Valle, a French noblewoman. Francois poses as the "Chartreuse Fox" while Robert and Jean-Pierre pretend to be a pair of highwaymen who are down on their luck.
Francois bets Marie that he can find a hero in anyone, and tries to prove it with Robert and Jean-Pierre. He is apparently successful, but finds out (too late to save his money) that Marie was the REAL Chartreuse Fox! Now, they have a choice; chalk it up to experience and move on, or risk their lives to rescue Marie from the guillotine. What to do? What do you think--of course they help her! "Vive La France! Vive La Revolution!"
NOTES: Special guest stars Robert Trebor as Francois Demarigny and Danielle Cormack as Lady Marie Du Valle/the "Chartreuse Fox".
55 "Reign of Terror": King Augeas (Grant Bridger) goes mad, and believes that he is Zeus. Hera grants him a portion of godly power, which he can keep if he kills Hercules.
NOTES: Special guest stars Robert Trebor as Salmoneus and Alexandra Tydings as Aphrodite.
56 "End Of the Beginning": Autolycus, the King of Thieves (Bruce Campbell), steals the Chronastone, and accidentally sends himself and Hercules back in time five years. Autolycus meets his younger self, and Hercules tries to save Serena from being killed by Zeus or enslaved by Ares (Kevin Smith). He succeeds, but when he returns to the present, he finds out that Serena has forgotten all about him and married someone else. He is sad that they could not be together again, but consoles himself by thinking that at least he saved her life.
NOTES: There is a great scene in this episode which is an homage to "Army of Darkness" (starring Bruce Campbell as Ash). In the movie, Ash's evil self separates from him, then taunts him by singing "Mr. Goody Two-Shoes" and doing a weird dance. Ash responds to this by blowing his evil twin's head off with a shotgun.
Ash: "Good, bad; I'm the guy with the gun."
In this episode, Autolycus (Bruce) is faced with his younger self, who is doing the same thing. Auto doesn't have a shotgun, but he does punch his younger self's lights out.
Young Auto: "Oh, man, what kind of goody two shoes did I turn into?"
Old Auto: "You watch your mouth!"
Young Auto: "Oh, why? Is Mr. Goody Two Shoes embarrassed?" (starts singing and
dancing) "Mr. Goody Two Shoes. Mr. Goody Two Shoes." POW! [Old Auto punches him
out.]
Autolycus: "I ain't that good."
57 "War Bride": King Tolus of Alcinia is dying, but before he dies, he wants his oldest daughter, Melissa (Lisa Chappell), to marry Prince Gordius of Lathia (Ross McKellar) and thus unite their kingdoms, ending all possibility of war. Melissa is very upset at this news (Gordius is a little out of shape), but her power-hungry sister Alexa (Josephine Davison) decides to take advantage of the situation to take over the kingdom for herself. She conspires with Gordius' Prime Minister, Akteon (Mark Rafferty) to sell Melissa into slavery Fortunately for Melissa, Hercules saves her. But Alexa will not be denied! She murders her father, declares war on Lathia and unleashes Alcinia's most powerful weapon--the Fist of Tolus!
NOTES: Check out Alexa in her battle togs; black leather, mmmmm...
58 "A Rock And a Hard Place": An accused murderer is chased into a cave, where a cave-in traps him. Hercules could free him, but the guy's body has been crushed; to relieve the pressure would kill him instantly. Instead, he's dying slowly, at the mercy of anyone who can get close enough.
59 "Atlantis" [Season Finale!]: Hercules is shipwrecked on the legendary island of Atlantis. There, he discovers advanced technology which makes life easy for the city-dwellers, but spells doom for the island. Special guest star Claudia Black as Cassandra, a woman whose dark prophecies have made her an outcast. Unfortunately for Atlantis, she sees the future all too clearly.
