Derek's Links LS World

DLW ~ da source for Links

Today is:
Welcome to the home of Derek's Links LS World - the number two resource for Links Golf!! (since August 1999). I originally created this site because I had a hard time finding continually updated LinksLS sites on the web. I've made a page that I hope helps the newcomers to Links but is useful and entertaining to veteran Linksters. Here you'll find tips, charts, FAQ's, links to other great sites, course info, patches, wavs, shot/round downloads, frequently updated news on what Microsoft is planning on doing with the Links series, and much, much more!! With Links 2001 coming out in Oct/Nov, I've decided to expand the site and divide it into 2 sections: LS2000, and Links 2001. I highly recommend you view this site with Microsoft Internet Explorer!!

It's come to my attention that most if not all of the .wav file download links no longer work. I searched into the problem and looks like the accounts that the .wavs were housed on were deleted due to inactivity. I will be going back upto UConn in a week or so, and when I do I will try to upload all of them and more back up for all you folks! Sorry for the inconveinence!

Ack.. been a lil while.. had surgery on my tailbone which kinda put me outta commission and then im dealin with some school problems and whatnot. As for me, I'm still torn between LS 2000 and Links 2001! *sigh* With the LSTour shutting its doors.. its in a way forcing me to move into 2001. Just picked up the Expansion Pack from Wal-Mart today and fired 2001 up and shot a smooth -11, and -8 at the new Canyon Course @ Bighorn. Prior to today, I've been juss putzin around with the Pro Skill, Excellent Abilitied Virtual Tournaments in Links 2000. Anyways, heres the new news provided in an email by Steve Cherrier!

First off, Microsoft is announcing a new Web site for its Links franchise: Links Country Club, the official portal to the Links fan community, will go live on June 18. LinksCountryClub.com will direct visitors to popular Links fan sites, as well as offer original content and activities from Microsoft, such as the Links Tour(sounds kinda like Bubsnews...). The 2001 Links VGA Tour will also originate from LinksCountryClub.com and details of this tour will be announced soon.

In addition, a new update for Links 2001 is now available from the official Links site. The 1.21 update corrects a number of issues that Linksters were having and are listed on the News page.

Also a reminder to all you Links 2000 users out there, the LSTour will be closing its virtual doors on June 30. :( This is a big blow to the LS2000 online community but users can be comforted by the fact that they can still play online matches @ The Zone.

Well howdy.. yup an update. heh. Well I've been busy but have been trying to get 2 other websites up off the ground while I have been away from this while trying to handle the new college life. Well I think I got things pretty stable right now I've been thinking about coming back and once again regularly work on this site. I've also seen a great amount of new websites for Links since Links 2001's debut so I'm not sure whether I can offer anything else that the other ones aren't already. Well either way I'll try to update some of the basic stuff with patches and addon info and whatnot the next couple days. Take it easy ~ Derek

Since the last update, I have the sad news of telling you that Bubsnews; the best site for overall Links news, has shut its doors. :( George Fitting's(Bub) explanation for closing the site can be found at http://www.bubsnews.com.

Theres tons of news and stuff that I've missed and hopefully I can catch up soon. I have Links 2001 but not installed on my computer as right now I'm perfectly satisfied with Links 2000. Once the LSTour no longer supports 2000 will be when I make the switch probably. Any emails to me with reported broken links/dead downloads would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance! :)

A patch for Links 2001 is coming shortly. The development team is hard at work, and we anticipate that the file will be available next week. Issues that will be addressed in this update include: Late and missing snaps are fixed, The snap point for a "pick shot out of the sand" for left-handed golfers is corrected, Swing type can no longer be changed during a multiplayer game, The verify score bug during a multiplayer round is fixed, Other issues are being addressed, and we'll be sure to let you know as soon as the patch is available.

The Course Converter has been delayed, but will be available on January 31, 2001. Creating the course conversion utility was not a simple task; and to ensure that each of the 39 could be converted properly, great care is being taken with each and every course. When available, players will be able to download the course converter application. Since the new Links 2001 engine uses a new terrain rendering system, they will also need to download a new terrain kernel for Links courses, since the older format isn't read in Links 2001. The converter will then pull and plant the objects from the older .crx file over to the new kernel and presto -- a playable course in 2001 is created! Players will be able to download course kernels one at a time or as a bundle. There will be no charge for downloading the converter or kernels, but connection charges may apply. Each kernel is approximately 1 MB, depending on the size of the terrain. Before courses can be converted, the converter application will ensure that a previous licensed version of the course is installed on the player's computer. Graphically, these converted courses will look better than the originals, but not as great as the newer 2001 courses because they weren't built from the ground up with the new architect.

The fourth terrain template is now available for download. It includes terrains suitable for a sand canyonsetting. Also, don't forget the Meteor Crater, Mountain Stream, and Center Lake terrain packs that are currently available. For this and other downloads, follow this link: http://www.microsoft.com/games/links2001/downloads.asp.

Just a reminder that the old LS Tour site will be closing its virtual doors on December 31, 2000. The Links Tour Open Preview is underway at the new site (http://linkstour.zone.com), where there are many exciting tournaments going on. So, get your virtual clubs and head out to the fairway!

Whoa..I haven't updated in a looooong time. Sorry bout that...college workload has been crazier than what I thought. Look for updates later this afternoon and this weekend. Also like to thank a few people for pointing out some broken links. :) Again, I'm gonna try and break away everyday to keep this site going as I can't believe I hadn't updated in about 20 days!! I also have got some Links 2001 calenders here to give away from this site, so I will try to come up with some kinda contest or giveaway. Until later, have a good day :)
