Lynn Stoddard

[  Department of Environmental Protection, State of Connecticut ]

An important issue in today’s society is the pollution resulting from Technology and Industry, and its effects on the local and global Environment, which can adversely impact  the welfare of present and future generations.      Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Depletion of the Ozone layer, and Global Warming are among the best known effects.    What can we do to control and ameliorate such effects ?     What is being done in the USA, and in particular in Connecticut ?

Connecticut participates in the regionwide Climate Change Action plan, together with other New England states and Eastern Canada.         In Connecticut,  several state agencies, including the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), are working together on the Climate Change Action plan.

In this seminar, Lynn Stoddard from the DEP, who has been very active in this process,  will discuss what is being done in the State of Connecticut.

What is the nature and the magnitude of the problem in Connecticut ?  What do we need to do ?    What can be done at the State level ?   What are the specific Climate-related initiatives currently underway ?    These are among the questions that will be discussed in this seminar.

Lynn Stoddard’s talk  will be preceded by a short tutorial on the science underlying Climate Change and the relevant problems.

There will be a discussion period;   you are invited to bring your questions and ideas.
