Role Playing fun in the world of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time

General:

This is a Play By E-mail (Pbem) simulation game based on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. There are basic classes and backgrounds for your character, but who your character is and what they do is up to you. The GM is responsible for providing conflict, but the individual characters are in charge of moving the story line forward. I don't want to have to create any NPC's (non-player characters) whose name is 'Deus Ex Machina' if you get my gist.

Caracters:

Your character must have two things, a background and a class. Backgrounds are: Aiel, Atha'an Miere, Borderlander, Cairhienin, Domani, Ebou Dari, Illianer, Midlander, Tairen, Tar Valoner, and Taraboner. There are traits that correspond with each of these backgrounds. More information about this is available on the Characters page. In addition to your background, your character also has a class. These include Algai‘d’siswai, Armsman, Initiate, Noble, Wanderer, Wilder, and Woodsman. While these are the official classes and backgrounds, I am always open to interesting and new ideas (Seanchan for instance) if you wish to play them.

A Note on Levels

Ok, so many people have asked me “What level do I start at?” This actually creates two problems for me. How are levels handled and what determines the level at which you start?

I considered many options regarding how to handle levels, experience points, etc. In a game without dice, it makes it hard to have dice-dependant fights. Without dice-dependant fights, opponents do not need challenge ratings based on hit points and without official challenge ratings it is hard to award experience points. No experience points leads me to the problem of awarding levels. Since class characteristics and abilities are also not based on skill points but rather how you play your character, I see character levels as irrelevant. Therefore handle your character according to the experiance you have said that they have. No Sheephearders killing Myradrill with their bare hands- even Rand had to learn sword forms. My solution is this: player levels.

As you post and sim, your logs improve as well as you abilities with character development. This is the hope at least. I will create several awards, one of which will be awarded monthly by the other players for the best log of the month. Each of the ‘big accommodations’ such will correspond with an offer to play a major NPC for a log or a series of logs. For example, Rand al’Thor, one of the Forsaken, The Creator (if we want to have a natural disaster) or such. So that is that. If you have questions, send me a personal email (not through the listserve).

Posting:

This is the most important thing to read before you begin to post. The style for this game is 'log style' which means that you post a complete story segment at a time. Joint logs (JL's) are encouraged between players, and this can be accomplished in private chat rooms or through individual e-mails until the final product is ready for posting to the whole list.

At the end of your post, it is IMPERATIVE that you 'sign' your log with your character's name, background and title (or class). You can also add a small picture of your character, which adds to the interest, but it is not necessary. A sample would look like this:

Rand Al'Thor
Two Rivers, Aiel
The Dragon Reborn

In your individual posts you can create as many 'pet characters' as you want, but be prepared for others to ask to interact with them. I do ask that you keep your CHARACTER your most frequent post, or suffer my wrath. If your character falls by the way side, or simply decides to 'settle down' and you wish to continue with another ‘pet’ that you have been working with, simply contact me. While I am on this note, I believe, unlike some GM's, that Player Characters are capable of dying. I have successfully killed many of my characters just to prove this point. If your character looks like they may die, I will give you fair warning and work with you to solve the problem or help you develop a new character. What fun is it without mortality? This isn't about becoming a god, if you want to do that go GM somewhere. *_*

Finaly, remember this is a game. Keep it clean, safe, and most of all FUN!. If you think something might not be appropriate use the rule of thumb from Star Trek sims, ‘you never know if the CO is 13,’ and write accordingly.
