I'm not sure what to say about the R2-D2 figure with the serving tray. It is essentailly the original 12" R2-D2 figure albeit slightly modified and with less mobility. The figure has a serving tray permanently mounted to the top of its head. The serving arm on top of the figure is articulated and can move around from glass to glass. The R2-D2 figure itself has the standard articulation although it cannot be used. Because of the drinking tray, the two exterior legs cannot be moved very far backwards or forwards. Although the middle leg can extend, there is no point because the two exterior legs are more or less stuck in a fixed position. This means that the R2-D2 figure with serving tray cannot roll around and serve drinks as in the movie, but only stand in place.
The figure does not come with any accessories but it is well sculpted and serves its purpose.
The figure was released in a FAO Schwarz exclusive two pack with a Leia in Slave outfit back in 1997. Although the R2-D2 figure does not have any variations, there was a variation with the Leia figure. The initial sculpt had a large and ugly head. The heads were never released to stores as they were destroyed and a new head was used. However, some "big head" Leia figures did make their way into the hands of collectors.
