The Dragon Ball Z story
Dragonball-Z is one of the most popular anime shows ever to hit Japan. The original series Dragonball, based on the manga by the same name by Toriyama Akira, which started up about 10 years ago began by telling the story of an incredibly strong boy and his quest for 7 magic balls which when collected, would call for a dragon that could grant one wish. At first it was an adventure-type show with a little bit of martial arts. After some time, the main hero of the series grew up and after 153 episodes and the show's name was changed to Dragonball Z (still based on the manga, although the name of the manga didn't change) becoming then more martial-arts oriented. The manga series has ended recently (In April of 1995) going already in its 42º volume ending also the anime series. But due to the enormous success of the series a new one was created: Dragonball GT, this one not having the participation of Toryama Akira (this site doesn't provide any information about it). Other works of Akira Toryama include Dr. Slump, Penguin Village and Go Go Ackman.
The manga (comic) of DB and DBZ is currently being released by Viz.
Dragonball was created by Akira Toriyama as a manga comic. It went to TV soon after, much like his previous manga, Dr. Slump. Early on it was more comedic and kiddy than DBZ, but that changed in its third saga, where Piccolo awoke. At the end of its third saga, the show's name, but not the manga, changed to Dragonball Z. Dragonball Z was more aimed at teenagers than Dragonball, and more centered around martial arts. After four major sagas, the Saiyajin Saga, the Frieza Saga, the Cell Saga, and the Buu Saga, Toriyama decided to end the manga and see what others could do wioth the dragonball universe. The studios continued making a new Dragonball- Dragonball GT (Grand Tour). Gt lasted for fewer episodes than DBZ or DB and ended the DB universe as the studios decided instead to run a new Dr. Slump series.
