Birthday: A long time ago! But not as long ago as a one of my bandmates (GUESS WHO?)
Family:Married(Debbie) with two children Daughter(Erin)
and Son(Eric).We also have 3 Grandchildren(Garrett,Kayla,and Gracie)
As far back as second grade,I used to raid my two older sisters
bedrooms and help myself to their 45's when they weren't home.
I would stack 'em on the player, and once I'd played them all,
I'd flip them all over and play the other sides.I didn't know
an A side from a B side.
In the fifth grade I got my first lp for Christmas.
Del Shannon(Little Town Flirt) Which I quickly traded for a
Beach Boys,Surfin Safari album.
With my first allowance,I peddled my bike down to the local
Arlans store on the corner of Dorr & Secor and bought my first
45.It was Manfred Mann(Sha La La )with a cool picture sleeve
I have a mint copy of that sleeve today(not the same one though)
My mom knew where she could find me every time she would take me
along shopping with her.In the record dept. of course!
Two of the big highlights of my teen years were seeing the
Beatles (August 13,1966)at Olympia in Detroit.I had a friend
who lived next door to a local Am radio station manager.
We got to ride a chartered bus up for the matinee show.
Thanks Tom Murphy for giving me your second ticket!!
I also went to U.T. in 1967 to see this guitar player
who was supposed to be really good..He was and his name
was Jimi Hendrix.I had never heard of him at the time..
As best I can remember,I started playing guitar in the
spring of 1966.I talked Mom into renting me a Bass guitar
& Amp.I thought since it only had 4 strings,I'd be able
to get into a band sooner. As a member of the "Black Light"
I can remember some early highs..We played on Bob Kellys
teen dance show,"Lets Dance" in 1967.We got all our friends
to watch. Technology wasn't so hot in those days the mikes
were turned way down so that they wouldn't feed back.We
couldn't hear ourselves singing at all..We tried doing
BeeGees(To love somebody)and bombed badly!It wasn't easy
to go to school on Monday!!We were active in all the
battle of the bands of the day and once placed third
at the Sports Arena(We were sure we were on our way)
I've lost contact with a couple of the guys but know that
our guitar player went on to bigger and better things.
Gene Bloch(Black) has been Joe Cockers guitar player for
the last several years.Pete Robinson has been a popular Toledo
area drummer for a long time.
I don't think I was as dedicated as the other guys.My interest
drifted away from making music and 20 years went by before I
found it again.
My Son and friend Kevin persuaded me to start playing again in
1997.I rented a guitar and amp.After about a month I went out
and bought one..
I was asked in March 2003 if I'd be interested in joining
the Knobs .I think we are all pleasantly surprised
by how far we've come in 3 years time.
