I am a SURVIVOR not a VICTIM of childhood sexual abuse. We are the “tortured souls”, the “lost angels”, abused and betrayed by those who should have loved, nurtured and cared for us, or at the very least listened to our pleas for help. One in every four young boys and girls are sexually abused every day. These statistics are staggering and for that reason I chose to put this page on-line.
We have no "warm, fuzzy" memories, no holidays, no precious moments between mother and daughter/son or father and daughter/son, no memories of playing with friends or siblings. Instead, we remember a childhood filled with tears, pain, despair, fear and worthlessness.
The effects of childhood sexual stay with us long into our adult lives. Most of us have low self-esteem, we lack confidence and deal with guilt and anger every day. Many of us suffer from post traumatic stress disorder. We have to fight every day to let people close to us and to let ourselves get close to others. We have trouble making friends because we can't TRUST.
I don't go into the details of what I endured on this page. I concentrate on feelings, memories and hope. I also put together some links to wonderful sites that offer hope, support and that may give you the courage to heal. Because healing takes courage, lot's of it.
In my case, I chose to block what happened to me. My life started at 13. It's like I never was and then I was 13. I don't remember dance classes, family vacations, school or friends. When I look through pictures, it’s like I’m looking at someone else, not me. But thanks to some wonderful friends, my “special angel” and a therapist I trust, I am healing and you can too!
I hope that each of you who surfs through my site will realize that there is hope. We can heal. Yes, it takes hard work and many tears, but there will come a day when you can say you are a SURVIVOR not a victim of childhood sexual abuse.
