Chp 12
~Chapter 12~
Denise couldn't sleep. She felt awkward. Very awkward. She felt like the upmost happiness and a soul-wrenching sadness inside. They were mixed up feelings, yet totally separate. The detectives brought up very bad memories. Memories that would always remain in the back of her mind until the day she died. 'What the heck is going on?' She got up to fix herself a cup of tea. But when she stood up and proceeded to walk out of the room, she felt very dizzy. She closed her eyes and saw a horrible sight.
"HEEEELP!!! Someone get me out of here please!"
AJ was in his coffin, six feet deep, very much alive and screaming and pounding on the lid.
"I'm not dead! I'm not dead!"
Denise fell to her knees and gasped. Then she had another vision.
AJ was squirming about and panicking.
"Get me out! Help! I'm not dead! I was buried alive!"
Denise held her head down to her chest.
"Stop! Stop it! No!" she cried. She didn't want to see anymore.
AJ kicked a hole through the top and clawed his way out. His hand broke through the dirt at the surface.
"Oh my God!!!" she screamed. The visions then stopped. She sat on the floor holding her head and breathing heavily. "I have to know! I have to know!"
She got up and got dressed. Then, she got in her car and drove to the cemetery.
"I have to know! I have to know!" she repeated over and over to herself, as she entered the gates to the graveyard. She sensed a presence, but she continued on. Then she heard footsteps. She walked faster. So did the mysterious footsteps. She broke into a run. The footsteps soon followed.
"Help!" she screamed as she ran through the cemetery. "Someone please help me!"
She looked back every once in a while to see how far her persuer was from her. Everytime she looked back, he was closer.
"Noooooo!" She was crying and screaming. Her attacker was difficult to look at. It had red cat eyes, razor-sharp yellow teeth, and a demonic face, with pointy ears, two slits for nostrils, and bumps and hairy warts all over it's face.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" She tripped and fell hard on the ground. She curled up and cried hysterically. She didn't really care if she died or not. She cried because she realized that this was the mysterious killer and it broke her heart to pieces to know that AJ's last memory was of that horrific beast. It stood right above her. She couldn't bear to look at it, but she could feel it staring at her in anticipation. The end was near. It would strike in any moment. She silently prayed.
Just when she thought it was going to jump on her and end all her suffering, she heard struggling noises, grunts, and shrieks. Denise didn't want to look up. She was afraid of what she would see. Suddenly, there was a loud *poof* and then everything turned silent. She gathered what ever courage she had left and jerked her head up. Her eyes widened as she caught a glimpse of her savior. A pair of shocked and familiar eyes stared back at her.
"AJ?"
As soon as she said that name, he took off. Denise quickly got up and tried to follow him.
"AJ?! AJ, wait!"
But he was too fast for her. He disappeared into the shadows. Denise stood there, trying to make sense of what just happened. Was it just another vision? Was it just an apparition? Did she want to be with him so much that she had just imagined him there? Or---was it possible? She cautiously walked over to AJ's grave, preparing herself for what ever she would find. She dropped to her knees and felt the earth with her hands. She suddenly touched upon hollow ground and began to dig furiously. The dirt got looser and looser. She realized that there was a caved in hole. She stood up and ran to her car. Then, she drove 70 miles per hour to her house. She staggered, breathing heavily snd crying, up to her door, frantically unlocked it, and rushed inside, slamming the door behind her.
AJ had secretly followed her to make sure she gotten home safely. After he was sure that she was secure, he slowly walked back to the hotel room to meet with Valencia. It had been five hours since he last saw her. Of course Valencia was worried and as soon as he opened the door, she began her interrogation.
"Alex, I thought we agreed to four hours! Where were you?! What happened?!"
He didn't answer her. He didn't even look at her. He just walked expressionlessly to the bathroom and locked the door. He looked just like a walking corpse, no life in his eyes. It scared Valencia. She stood outside the door and knocked gently.
"Alex, are you alright? What's wrong?"
Inside, AJ leaned on the sink and stared into the mirror. Nothing. Nothing stared back at him. No reflection. It was as if he didn't really exist at all. All the feelings he thought had passed returned to him. Lonliness, anger, hatred, sadness, and a sense of loss consumed him. He had to let them out. He had to act on his emotions.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!"
He punched the mirror, breaking it into a million pieces. The loud crash made Valencia jump.
"Alex?! Alex! Open this door!" she frantically turned the door knob and pounded. "What happened?! Are you ok?! Alex!"
She finally heard him unlocking the door. When she went inside, AJ was sitting on the floor up against the wall, his head in his hands, sniffling and sobbing. Valencia noticed that his knuckles were bleeding, but she wasn't worried about that. They'd heal themselves in a matter of seconds. AJ looked at up at her. His eyes were red, puffy and the tears continued to flow. He looked so lost. Valencia kneeled next to him and embraced him. She started to cry also. She didn't know why, but seeing him like this broke her never beating heart.
"It's ok. It's ok. You can tell me when you're ready, shhh," she tried to console him as she rocked him back and forth. "I'm here. I always will be."
Denise immediately ran up to her room and dialed Elaine's number. After six rings, a groggy voice answered it. It was Elaine's husband, Tim.
"Hello?"
"I'm sorry to have awaken you, Tim. May I please talk to Elaine? It's Denise."
He sleepily shook Elaine awake and handed her the phone.
"It's Denise," he whispered.
"Denise, what is it? Are you alright?"
Denise was out of breath and wheezing.
"Elaine! Elaine, you are not going to believe what I am going to do in the morning!"
Elaine carefully listened to her absurd and rapid explanation.
"You're going to WHAT?!"
