Chp 3
~Chapter 3~
He couldn't hear anything. He couldn't see anything. Everything was pitch black. But he could still feel. That would've been a more favorable handicap. He had a major headache and his neck hurt like hell. He was dazed and confused.
"What the--- was I drinking? No. No, I don't remember drinking. I don't remember anything. Aww, jeez, what the hell happened to my neck?!"
He went to touch it when he realized that he couldn't move.
"What the hell?!'
He raised his arms and his hands came in contact with satin covered wood. He reached for the sides and stretched out his legs. The same results.
"Oh my God, where am I?!" It took a while for it to sink in. "I'm in a coffin! What the hell am I doing in a fuckin' coffin! I've been buried alive! HHHHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!" He began shouting and pounding on the sides of the casket. "What the hell am I doing?! No one can hear me! I'm six fuckin' feet deep! Oh my God! I'm gonna suffocate! I'm gonna die!"
He continued to panic when he suddenly realized that he wasn't suffocating at all.
"Maybe I'm in an air pocket! Yeah, that's it! Oh my God, I have to get out of here!!!"
He began to fiercely kick the lid. After a few minutes, it began to splinter and he finally broke through. A lot of dirt tumbled in.
"Dammit!" He spit out the soil that landed in his mouth. "Yuck!"
He proceeded to claw his way through to the surface. His hand felt the cool night air and he dug himself completely out of the hole of death. Just then, it started thundering and raining.
"Oh great! Perfect timing!"
He looked around hoping to find some sort of shelter. The nearest thing was the Johnston family tomb. He quickly ran over to it and tried to pull open the heavy stone door. But it was locked.
"Dammit! Open you stupid door! OPEN!!!"
He was so mad he kicked the door and in the process broke the lock.
"Whoa! Yes!"
He scurried in and closed the door behind him. There were two caskets right next to each other in the middle of the building, assumed to be husband and wife. He walked over to them.
"Sorry to be disturbing your eternal rest, Mr. and Mrs. Johnston, but you gotta do what you gotta do." He looked around and scrunched up his nose. "Eh, this will do for now. But as soon as it's daytime, I'm going to go home expecting a very good explanation."
He curled up in a corner and went to sleep.
The next morning, he felt a strange hunger overwhelm him. For once in his entire life, McDonald's wasn't tempting. He wasn't sure what he wanted. No light shown through and he missed the warmth of the sun. He opened the door slightly, when someone suddenly shouted…
"No!"
He spun around to find a beautiful young woman standing there. She had dark brown curls down to her shoulders and sparkling bright green eyes. Her skin was very pale and she was wearing a long and lovely white satin dress. She took a step forward.
"Don't open that door."
He was stunned by her beauty and her sudden appearance.
"W-w-who are you? W-what are you doing here?"
"I've come for you."
"What?"
"You have to come with me."
"Umm, no. I don't think so. Sorry, but I have to go home. Nice meeting you, bye."
He was about to step into the sunlight when the woman screamed "Alexander, no!" and leaped towards him and pushed him away from the opened door. She landed on top of him on the floor. He just stared at her, while she gave him a look and got off him.
"I told you not to open the door!"
"What's your problem?! Who are you and how do you know my name?!"
"My name is Valencia and I know a lot more about you than you know about yourself."
"What are you talking about?! Why won't you let me leave?!"
"It's daytime outside."
"Yeah, so?"
"You want to get yourself killed?"
"What?! I have no idea what's going on! Obviously you do so would you care to explain it to me!"
"You're dead," she said bluntly.
"I'm what?"
"You're alive."
"No, you just said that I was---"
"You're both."
"I don't understand."
"You're a vampire."
"Huh?! Is this some sick joke?! Vampires aren't real! And if they were, I am certainly not one!"
"Stick your hand out the door."
He blinked and looked at his hand. He opened the door slightly and slowly put his hand through the crack. It didn't get to go all the way because as soon as it came in contact with the sunlight, it began to burn.
"Ahhhhhhhh!" He quickly pulled it back and gaped at his gruesome injury. But suddenly the burnt skin began to repair itself and a few seconds later, it was gone. There was no trace of a burn anywhere on his hand. No scar, no nothing. It completely disappeared. He looked at Valencia in awe.
"I'm…I'm a vampire?"
"Yes, you are."
He dropped to his knees and held his hand. The tears began to form in his eyes.
"How did this happen?" he asked quietly.
"It's a fairly long story."
"I don't care. I have eternity now…right?"
"True. I was walking down the beach in Romania, pondering. I was about to leave when I felt that something was wrong, so I turned back. Us vampires have what you could call a sixth sense, so we are always alert. Anyway, I saw a Daemoniacus member feeding off you. I tried to get there as fast as I could. I staked him through the heart and he dropped you. You were almost gone. I tried to save you by letting you drink my blood, but it was too late. At least I thought so. You seemed to die in my arms. I was very surprised to know that you had risen."
"Ok. Wait a second. If you were in Romania and I rose or whatever here, how did you know?"
"I told you, our sixth sense. And it's especially strong when it involves the new ones we sire. I was incredibly upset when I thought I failed you. Then this uplifting feeling rushed through me. That's when I knew you were alive, sort of speak. I immediately took off to journey into this unknown country to find you and help you with your changes."
"Unbelievable. So you're sort a like my mother or something?"
"You could say that."
After she said that, he thought of something.
"My mother! Oh my God, I can't imagine what she's going through! I have to see her! I have to let her know that I'm alright!"
"No! You can't! We can't interact with humans!"
"But you feed off them, right?! That interaction!"
"Yes, but they either die or become one of us. Believe it or not, it's for their own good that they don't know we exist."
"How can you say that?! It just makes them vulnerable! They walk around not being able to defend themselves because they don't know we exist!"
"Alexander, listen to me. You will put her life in danger if she knows about you. Do you want to do that?"
AJ looked at the ground.
"No. But I-I-I…I wasn't ready to die," he answered quietly.
Valencia felt sorry for him. She walked over to him and placed her cold hand on his cheek. He stared at her with sad eyes.
"Why did you try to save me?"
"I've seen many die. I thought that maybe this time I would see someone live. I'm sorry I couldn't get there in time."
"I know you tried and I appreciate it, but maybe I would have been better off dead. I mean totally dead. This creature of the night thing isn't for me. I hate the sight of blood! I can't possibly kill another to drink it!"
"You don't have to kill."
"What do you mean? Aren't vampires supposed to kill to feed?"
"Not all of them."
"What?"
"It's very complicated. Come on, we can't stay here. I know of a secret underground place we can stay until you are ready to go back to Romania with me."
"Romania?! Why do I have to go there?! Can't I stay here?"
"You will be alone here. The others like you are in Romania."
"B-b-but…"
"Alexander, please follow me," she commanded.
His jaw dropped to the ground. 'Who does she think she is bossing me around?!' he thought.
"As your sire, it is my duty to guide you through your new life," she said, answering his thought.
'I don't want this life. As soon as she's gone, I'm going to go outside and end it, once and for all.'
"No, Alexander, don't."
"Don't what?" he asked puzzled.
"Don't try to kill youself."
"How did you know?"
"I can read your mind."
"Really? Can I read yours?"
"You don't know how to use your powers yet. That's why I'm here."
"Thanks for coming here and everything, but I don't want to know how to use my powers. I don't even want my powers. I didn't ask for this. All I want is to be twenty-one and date and have fun and do other normal stuff like I used to! But now I can't do that! I can't see my mom or my friends! I can't go to church! I can't even see the sun! It's amazing how I took all those things for granted!"
"Alexander---"
"I don't want this! I don't want this life! If you can even call it a life! I'm gone, I'm going, I'm walking, goodbye!" He opened the door and was about to step outside.
"Alexander, don't! Please!"
Valencia's voice was so pleading. He spun around to find Valencia actually crying. He was very surprised and studied her face. She was genuinely upset.
"You're crying? Why?"
He stepped closer to her. She turned her face so he wouldn't see her tears.
"Why do you care so much?"
She wiped her tears away.
"If you come with me, I'll explain everything to you. Please come with me?"
AJ was reluctant but after a few moments of thought, he decided to hear her out. He sighed and went over to her.
"Ok. Lead the way."
She gave him a slight smile and pushed on the stone wall at the end of the room.
"What are you doing?"
"Help me."
He had no idea what she was trying to do, but he just shrugged and began pushing the wall, also. After a few seconds, it began to move. They continued to push and finally it slid to the side all the way to reveal a secret passage way.
"Whoa!" exclaimed AJ. "How did you know?!"
"Our sixth sense," she said with a grin. "Come on."
'Damn.'
