I closed my eyes, trying to fall asleep. It was 5 am, and I still hadn't slept any. God, it was a tiny kiss, why was I thinking so hard? I couldn't talk to anybody about it. Kissing Howie had been very nice, but something was making me feel really weird about it. Nick kept popping back into my mind. Yeah, he'd been talked into taking me out, but I never did hear his story. I finally decided to get up, and I went down to the kitchen. I grabbed the milk and the chocolate syrup to make myself chocolate milk. I mixed it up and sat down staring out the window. I heard footsteps and turned around to see Dad walking in the kitchen.
"Hey kiddo. What are you doing up?" he asked. He pulled up a chair beside me and sat down.
"I couldn't sleep.."
"Have fun at AJ's?" he grabbed my glass and took a sip.
"Yeah, I guess. They were acting like guys. Can you believe that?"
He laughed. "Guys acting like guys? I woulda never known!"
I laughed too. The sun was coming up and the backyard was starting to look pink.
"So, you don't sleep late on weekends?" I asked.
"No, I like to get an early start everyday. I was thinking about us going to Disney World."
"Aren't I a little too old for that?"
"No, anyway, it'll give me and Denise time to spend with you. We haven't had family time since you got home."
"Ugh, ok. What time do we need to leave for this family fun day?" I asked.
"In an hour. I'm gonna go wake Denise up. We'll go to the Waffle House for breakfast. "
I got up and dragged myself into the shower. I put on a pair of jean shorts and a tight black T-shirt. It was just about an hour later when I presented myself at the bottom of the stairs. Sitting in the kitchen was Nick and Alex. I walked in, my defenses getting ready.
"Why are you here?" I asked.
"That's a fine welcome for your only brother." Alex replied huffily.
"Sorry" I grumbled. "So glad you're here, brother dearest. Better?"
"Much." he smirked at me. "And yes, we are coming with you. Mom called me up and invited me, and Nicky here spent the night, so he decided to come along for the ride."
"Fine." I finally turned to Nick. He was staring at me intently. When my eyes met his, he smiled a little. I just sneered.
"Well, I'm gonna go sit outside and wait." I spun around and went to the front yard. I sat on the grass and started picking blades. Moments later Nick came and sat beside me. I looked at him anger in my eyes.
"Would you just listen to me?" Nick started. Dad came out and saved the day.
"Ready kids?" Dad asked. I stood up and brushed off. Alex eyed Nick and I suspiciously, and walked over to us. "I get middle of back-seat...What ride do you wanna go on first Ginny?" We squeezed into the car as Alex and Nick started arguing about which ride was best.
"Dad...You said this was a family day. Why is Alex here?" I elbowed Alex in the ribs.
"Well, he and Nick sure are fighting like they're family." Dad quipped. Denise laughed. We pulled into the park and went straight to the gate.
'I want to ride the Teacups, Magic Mountain, the "I started rattling off rides I wanted to ride on.
"Maybe we'll meet Tigger and you can get your picture taken with him!" Alex squealed like a girl. I pushed him with disgust.
"Grow up, Der." I ran ahead and got on a different section of the monorail then everyone else. I was already in line at the haunted mansion when everyone else strolled up. They cut line and stood next to me.
"So, sweetie, have you put anymore thought into what you'll do this summer?" Dad asked as we crept towards the front.
"Maybe I'll get a job here....." I said. It wasn't that bad of an idea. The work wouldn't be too hard, and I'd probably meet lots of people. When we finally got inside, Alex went to the guy running the ride. "Do you have job openings for monsters in here?" The guy laughed at him. I shot him a dirty look and went to the opposite side of the room. When the ride ended, we went to almost all of the other rides. It was 8 when we decided to call it a day. I had been lucky enough to have Nick avoid me the entire day, but once we got to my house, Nick cornered me in the hallway.
'Would you please just listen to me, Ginny? I just want to tell you what happened..." he started. I turned and glared.
"I'm listening..."
"When AJ asked me to take you out, I wasn't so sure at first. I mean, we go way back and I wasn't sure if it was what I wanted. But because AJ is like my brother, I agreed."
'This isn't helping your case Nick..." I stated.
"But then I came to pick you up, and you looked so pretty. "
"So, you just like my looks....."
"Ginny! Just let me finish, ok?" he pleaded. I huffed.
"Then we went out, and I realized that you are totally different then I remember you. I mean, when we were younger, you were this quiet sweet little girl. Now you're all sassy. I like you both ways, but I want to get to know the new you better. Even if AJ hadn't asked me to take you out, I would have figured it out myself in a day or two. Al I'm asking is for you to give me a chance."
I looked at him skeptically, and he pouted a little.
"Ok........I guess I'll buy that......" I said after staring at him awhile.
"Really?" he replied smiling.
"Yeah, I suppose......." I smiled.
"Great! We could..." Nick was interrupted by Alex walking into the hallway.
"Ready bro?" he asked, smiling at us.
"Yeah.....I'll call you, ok Ginny?" I agreed and watched them leave. I sighed deeply as I walked into the kitchen. They were looking at the caller id.
"Why would Howie be calling here?" Dad asked peering at the box.
"He was probably looking for Alex..." I said a little too quickly. Dad looked at me strangely.
"That's probably it...." Denise remarked.
"Well, I've had a long day. I'll see you guys tomorrow." I ran off to bed before I stuck my foot in my mouth again.
