Chapter 9: The Arrival

They arrived in Paris at 9:00 p.m. It had been a long day. They had spent 12 hours in the air or in the airport. Both Reanna and Dana had slept through the entire flight. When they landed Kevin could barely hold his eyes open. He looked over at Dana and Reanna, both sound asleep. Kevin smiled and thought they were the most angelic beings he had ever seen. He felt tears come to his eyes, he thought they looked so much like their mother. He dismissed his tears, ‘This is no time to cry,’ he thought. Kevin rose to his feet. He stretched his arms and called out to A.J. “Hey Bone, do me a favor and pick up Dana for me.” A.J. nodded and gently picked Dana up. Almost automatically, she wrapped her arms around his neck. A.J. smiled sleepily and mouthed ‘ I love kids.’ A.J. walked down the aisle and exited the plane. Brian walked up and yawned then asked “Do you need any help with her?” Kevin looked at Reanna, who was curled up into a tight ball. He thought she could be a dead ringer for her mom. He turned back to Brian and replied, “Yeah would you help me guide her to the car?”
“Yeah.” Brian replied. Brian turned to Nick and placed a bag on top of Nicks stuff and said, “Because you are one of my most beloved friends, you get the priveledge of carrying my bag.”
Nick smiled sourly and replied, “I love you too.” Nick walked down the aisle and out the plane. Kevin shook his head and gently woke Reanna up. He said soothingly, “C’mon sweetie, we’ve gotta go to the car, okay?” Reanna barely opened her eyes, she was still half asleep. Kevin helped her up, and continued “C’mon, me and Brian are going to help you.” Reanna slowly stabalized herself. She held on to Brian and Kevin as they guided her down the aisle and out of the plane.
When they reached the limo, Reanna was still half asleep. She felt like she hadn’t slept in days. She could barely stand up. She held on tightly to Kevin and Brian as they stopped at the limo. Kevin said to Brian, “Bri, you hold her while I get into the limo and then I’ll help her into the limo.” Brian nodded and held Reanna tightly, not wanting to drop her. Kevin got into the limo and then helped Reanna crawl into the limo. Brian crawled in and the limo drove off. Reanna looked through blurry eyes at Dana who was sound asleep in A.J.’s lap. She wanted so much to lay down, she could barely keep herself from drifting into unconscienous. She would have to sprawl out onto Kevin and Brian to lay down. She didn’t want that to be considered as affection, because she didn’t want any in return. She couldn’t hold her head up any longer. She didn’t care about them anymore, she just wanted to sleep. “Oh screw it.” She mummered. Kevin curiously asked, “What Reanna?” But instead of a response, Reanna laid her head down on Kevin’s lap, and stretched her feet out on Brian’s lap. Within seconds, she was fast asleep. Kevin didn’t know how to take this, was this affection, or was she just tired? Howie grogily smiled and said, “Looks like your well on your way to becoming a dad.”

When they arrived at their hotel, instead of waking her up, Kevin decided to carry Reanna to their hotel room. When he got to his room, he palced Reanna on the spare bed, A.J. did the same with Dana. A.J. stood back and talked to Kevin for a moment. “I think you were made for this Kev,” A.J. began, “I guess we’re gonna have to start callin’ you Poppa Bear huh?” He finished with his eyebrows arched and a smile crept upon his face.
Kevin crossed his arms across his chest and sighed, “I don’t think it’s that easy.”
A.J. patted Kevin’s back and reassured him, “Hey give it some time. You just lost someone you lovd and they lost their mom, but I know everything will be fine. I just know it.”
Kevin had always liked the uncanny way A.J. could make someone feel better.
“I hope you’re right, Bone.”
A.J. raised his sunglasses and smiled, “Hey, have I ever been wrong?” Kevin gave a smirkish smile and replied, “Yes.”
A.J. dropped his sunglasses back down so they enveloped his eyes, “Oh shut up, and just believe me, kay? Goodnight Kev.” With that A.J. strutted out of the room. Kevin fell asleep pondering what A.J. had said. Would everything be okay? That path was a rough ride ahead.
